So I assume that's not allowed for that reason. If that was possible there'd be no reason for clubs to sell their stadiums to themselves etc when the owner could simply buy one advertising board for £30 million or whatever.

I'm guessing that we didn't take revenue for the Centreline advert, and that it was probably there because we couldn't sell all of our advertising space due to lack of interest because Covid etc.

It is allowed, provided it is at Fair Market Value.

In other words, what it would or could realistically be gained on the Open Market- could argue our profile has grown a bit since 2018 so it might get an uptick on Dunder but not by anything huge or gamechanging IMO.

Um.............Etihad Airways?

UEFA botched that somewhat- should have referred for sanctions in 2014, same with PSG!

Maybe as the rules were in their early stages, they let certain things go a bit- both signed Settlement Agreements, both adhered to Settlement Agreements so UEFA reopening the old case was on shaky ground legally.

Classic case of better the devil you know for those that wanted rid of Dunder. A relatively small Scandinavian gaming startup run by (to my knowledge) decent people, replaced by a murky far East betting platform with a poor history of compliance with local laws.

Agreed mate, not that happy with this but Dunder were probably the least worst.

Unfortunately gambling organisations seem to dominate sport sponsorship at the moment; I get it from their perspective but would much rather something else.

it's disappointing to say the least to see that on the back of other organisations and clubs deciding to drop this company from sponsorship,(for what appear to be very good reasons) we have clearly thought 'aaah **** it' and signed them on - doesn't send out a great message about our moral compass (!) , but then perhaps the club don't give a shit when the money is (probably) good.

maybe next time we approach the Saudi Royal family or a munitions company?

For those questioning the morals behind the use of a gambling company as shirt sponsorship are forgetting (or might be too young to remember) that back in the 80s, you couldn't move for tobacco sponsorship at Ashton Gate.

Until it's banned and until a more ethical sponsor paying the same money is ready to step in to fill the void, it is what it is.

Plenty of laser guided weaponry being built in Bristol - sounds like a good idea on further thinking!

Never mind a ball in the D, the half time community activity could include incinerating volunteers from 10,000ft in front of the Lansdown!

i certainly can remember the ubiquitous tobacco advertising everywhere!

but is there not a question of taking a (moral) lead on this, rather than waiting for it to be banned? - how are Swansea squaring it? and the other clubs who don't have parasitic, socially corrosive sponsors (help me off my high horse here :))

seriously though, you'd have thought there must be some options. i suspect the betting money is just too easy to land, low hanging fruit and that.

I guess we don't know what if any other options there were in the current environment.

I work for in marketing for a big Company in London, we sponsor various events both in and out of the sporting world as soon as covid hit anything we were discussing was either put on hold or cancelled and budgets scaled back.  Most of the opportunities in the sporting world we had discussed were taken by betting firms!  They seem to be the only firms with cash to spend on this sort of thing at the moment.

The more you look into the Mansion Group, the dodgier they are.

Based in a room in a Gibraltar hotel (yeah right) it isn't even clear who owns this company, which just emerged from nowhere 14 years ago and has only recently hit the UK market.

Online casinos base themselves in Gibraltar of course because of the colony's lax money laundering and tax regulations.  For info on the billions of dodgy money laundered through online casinos in Gib, Malta, Aruba and Canada's Mohawk reservations read here: https://shura.shu.ac.uk/6903/1/Banks_online_gambling.pdf

As far as can be ascertained, it appears Mansion are controlled by the Indonesian Sampoerna family, who made billions from cigarettes, but are involved in all sorts now. One big earner for them is burning down vast tracts of virgin jungle to develop palm oil plantations.

As has been pointed out above, the Gambling Commission has an open investigation into irregularities in Mansion Group activities.

In the light of all this, our club's move to tie in with these sleazebags looks like yet another shite decision by the board.
