Never thought about going to see an U23 match but if I can watch local non league side  I would hope be able to see a bit of U23 football. Curious what rules are about this and in these times if played at non league stadium.

Presumably because it's involving professional clubs, it's still classed as 'Elite' so no fans allowed?

Went to watch under 23s away to Taunton about 2 months ago but not sure if rules have changed now

Wasn't an 'academy' game though, it was a friendly game hosted by Taunton, not classed as elite.

Opi Edwards and Ryley Towler both with the squad tomorrow.

Doesn't quite say in the squad, but not used by 23's incase required for 1st team duty. We already had 18 so no guarantee they're in but I would suspect at least Ryley would be as CB cover. Opi depending whether Holden thinks someone else could cover RWB. Either way if both do make it on the bench tomorrow we could have 6 academy (or at least how the club defines them) players in the 18 tomorrow.

Dean Holden explained further, adding that he has called up U23s players Ryley Towler and Opi Edwards to add numbers for the game on the south coast.

Would be stupid if he didn’t.

Always the possibility of someone being unwell or picking up a knock in the warm up.

If it happened to a goalkeeper you then don’t have one on the bench.

With the squad, not in the squad

For the cost of an additional hotel room it is mental for a Championship football club not to take a third GK with them on an away trip. I'm sure we had this at Sheffield Wednesday or somewhere under LJ where a keeper got ill on the morning of the game and we ended up with no keeper on the bench. I saw it as rank amateur planning from a professional football club and was was shouted down at the time if my memory serves me correctly. "How could the club possibly know that would happen?"........well, if you are professional you should be covering reasonable eventualities and there is only one position on the pitch where you absolutely cannot "blag it" or "make do and mend" without a specialist playing there.
