NiceRed
The only thing I'm pretty sure about is that City fans (speaking very generally - and including myself), are not good at picking managers. I wasn't very happy with the Cotterill appointment, was underwhelmed with GJ, but was excited about McInnes, SoD and Coppell.

Oh Louie louie
So he, turns up late, claims never to have never heard of brian clough, shortens the name to notts, and still gets the gig! To get any job from a interview, and have the cheek to turn up late, that tells me he did something right.

To add further context, Hughton joined Forest a day after the transfer deadline had closed and inherited 14 new signings made over the summer. I think he's doing OK in the circumstances. See where they are at the end of next season, if he's still with them, and people still want to play a game of 'look at what we could've had'. Agree with you. Far too early for all this Chris Who?ton stuff. That said, very pleased with what I've seen from the new managerial team at BCFC.

I know he’s only recently arrived but the results are all a bit iffy . His wins coming against Coventry and Wycombe. He isn’t perhaps the Messiah after all.( I know he’s a very naughty boy ) OTIB would be an interesting place if the results were the same here if we had brought him in. I know it’s early but just an observation. Lots to do for Mr H. Since the Forest game vs us Hughton 3W 3D 3L Holden 3W 3D 3L I don't see the mass calls or panic over Holden, and if a manager came in mid season and we were 0 points from 4 games, and wasn't here years to assess the squad and didn't have a transfer window I think we'd be even more understanding. I think your premise is pretty wrong about the forum being that interesting over a run of "iffy" results like that, especially if you look at their forum and their general positiveness towards him. Only one linked did that and that was Stevie G although not sure how firm our interest was. He's done alright at Rangers and is doing well now but a club who seem to disregard FFP, two horse race- must be said some ex players seem to find it much easier than others in terms of their big break, though it's by no means universal. 11 ahead, but Celtic 2 games in hand- wonder if they can pull it back somewhat. Sure UEFA will have something to say about Rangers finances too.

What I missed was their win over Blackburn but without that the only wins would have been over the division’s newly promoted clubs ,hardly a sign of a promotion pushing team , so in some respects my thread looks a little less convincing I accord you that . MarcusX
18 hours ago, Taz said: Devil's advocate. Do you think that Cook was also the clubs first choice, but the goings on at Wigan at the same time made the board think "maybe give it to Dean for now and then if it doesn't work out around Christmas we can speak to Cook (again maybe). No cloak and dagger about compensation or lack thereof etc. Dean now, has made it abundantly clear that he is the best man for the job, and is now making the board think "Cook who?" All hypothetical of course. I did think that when we appointed Holden, it would only be short term until a better option came along. Can't argue with the results so far though!! I honestly think Holden just gave a strong interview and gave them something else to think about. He's passionate, he knew the squad and he knew his plan for the team. He knew what went wrong and how to fix it and so far that's justified I think? Might not be the most attractive football for 90 minutes but were so much more solid than last season defensively - I mean last night wasn't pretty but bar 1 or 2 chances the defence gave Andre Gray and then Troy Deeney absolutely nothing. Like I say, I dont think he was probably even in their considerations until they interviewed him, and thats why the big delay as they really had to weigh up their decision knowing it would go down so badly. Yeah I understood, and that's why I object. It's just too basic a point really to stand up to any scrutiny. Context matters hugely. How are we playing both in terms of dominance in games and stylistically? When did the wins come? How are the signings doing? How much have we been backed in the transfer window? Are the expectations of a new manager coming in higher than having someone in house take over? Holden as I said previously has big advantages in terms of being able to asses the squad and get off to a fast start because of this. I'd definitely give Hughton more time than I'll give Holden to change a squad and because he has a much better track record and less experience with the squad. We had 14 points from our first 9 games, there was some complaining because we were losing games at that point, and especially after the woeful defensive performance vs Norwich. If Hughton had 12, I can't see it being worse than it was, he's got more in built reasons not to be immediately successful. And there was no mass consensus that if we got Chris Hughton we were going to steam roller the league.
