Your 2020 Albums of the Year

We do this every year and now is just about the time to do it again.  I always look forward to this as make a point of listening to every album suggested at least once and, as a consequence, always discover great new music

I wouldn’t say it’s been a vintage year. Hard to say if that’s due to lockdown or not!

My list for this year:

Mild Orange - Mild Orange

Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

Black Pumas - Black Pumas

The Wkend - After Hours

Dream Wife - So When You Gonna

Alto Parks - Collapsed in Sunbeams

Looking forward to hearing everyone else’s.

Give Bright Eyes (band name) a listen, you might enjoy it.

I haven't heard a great deal among the newer bands that has got me excited, the main exception would be Fontaines DC - A Hero's Death which is very good.

Two albums by "old stagers" who are still pushing boundaries.

Ghosteen - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, (Technically it was released in November last year but I got as a present for my birthday in January :) )

Hey Clockface - Elvis Costello, the man defies his age and constantly changes his direction as the opening track Revolution #49 shows.

Baxter Dury - The Night Chancers

Soccer Mommy - Color Theory

Run The Jewels - RTJ4

Tame Impala - The Slow Rush

Caribou - Suddenly

Fiona Apple - Fetch The Bolt Cutters

Single of the year - Janelle Monae - Turntables. All the more sweeter after the US election result.

Best album to come out of South Bristol this year is City fan Boca 45s Donuts.

All of @Kid in the Riot's selection (as usual!!) plus:

Roger & Brian Eno - Mixing Colours

Agnes Obel - Myopia

Tricky - Fall To Pieces

The Nude Party - Midnight Manor

Favourite new band:

Dry Cleaning

Old band/New Discovery:

Cleaners From Venus

I thank my youngest daughter for introducing me to a band recording in a decade when I was in a band, but 25 years before she was born.
