Mr X
Worth a try against Blackburn? I'm sure they wouldn't be expecting it! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/55239103
nickolas
If the gk just leaves it and doesnt tough it then its no goal. Im sure Greg Goodridge did the odd one like this in the past too!

Im sure Greg Goodridge did the odd one like this in the past too! That's what I thought as well. I remember indirect free kicks (don't see many of them anymore) and a man utd game where Beckham went for goal. The keeper saved it but it rebounded and united scored from it. Keeper kicked up a fuss because it was unsporting to shoot on an indirect free kick. But had he let it go in, it wouldn't have counted. Often forgotten but in Italian 90, we played Holland and drew 0-0. In the final moments Stuart Pearce scored a free kick but as it was an indirect free kick, it didn't count. Transpires that the keeper claimed that he let it in to stop possibility of a rebound.

Some jobsworth linesman stopped him doing in one night to resounding boos around the stadium.

Im sure Greg Goodridge did the odd one like this in the past too! I was playing in goal a few years ago and allowed a long throw to go straight into the net. I remember thinking as the ball approached "Can you score directly from a throw or not?" but stepped aside at the last second and left it up to the ref. Fortunately he was up to speed on the rules and I was spared some serious embarrassment.
bristolcitysweden
Experienced this situation in May 1977 and the goal was ruled out. An ishockey playing mate, aged 16, throw the ball directly in to the goal in a game between schools.
