Curr Avon
Can you believe it's been three years since that game? Bryan's rocket, Korey's winner and LJ swinging that kiddy around like a mad thing. Enjoy, its been a crap year, you deserve it.
Kingswood Robin
In some ways it seems hard to believe it was 3 years ago, in other ways it feels like different world back then.
marcofisher
I was studying in Spain then. My French house mates couldn’t understand why I had flipped our dining table and ran around the flat like a maniac. Good times.
MarcusX
I always remember Joey Bryan's strike being top drawer, but I'd never noticed the touch past the United player and then the distance he covered to get on the end of it What a goal that is

Phileas Fogg
One of the best, if not the best, games I’ve ever been to. Amazing match. Never get tired of watching those goals.

cidercity1987
The first goal was truly one of the best goals we have probably ever scored, what a fantastic team move and brilliant finish. The winner was rank terrible defending, no tracking of runners whatsoever.
1960maaan
With what we are watching now, it's a little depressing. Around the time we played (probably) the best football in all the time I've watched them. Shame it didn't last longer.
Gakoe
Ahhh, awesome. I'd just arrived in Melbourne. Spent the night before in the bar in the casino. Lovely, crazy shit going on! Then after about 3 hours kip back to the bar for a 06:45(?) KO. Back on the piss and walking on air afterwards. Wonderful memories.

Lanterne Rouge
Joe was incredible in that game - the goal aside, that tackle on Rashford was up there with the best bit of defending I`ve ever seen. It`s rare something defensive gets you out of your seat cheering but it did that night.

fatchers
I think the decline started after the two legs against Man City. Two very good performances too. The praise from Pep went straight to Lee's head, he started to believe his own hype.

Mr Popodopolous
The Wolves home loss was more like the beginning of the end IMO. We went to QPR and had a poor record there, but drew. Professional win over Reading on Boxing Day- the Fielding red card vs Wolves was where it began to unravel. Oh we saw flashes! The Man City games, the dominant first half vs QPR, and then getting that 2-0 despite the Baker red card. 3-0 by HT at home vs Sheffield Wednesday, eventually 4-0 which was the Reid hattrick game and elements of games even in defeat vs Norwich and Bolton, ie still dominant in many areas, with similar principles. A case could also be made for first half vs Sunderland and Leeds in February. I think the bigger turning point was the Wolves game, our momentum after an hour that night, our belief. Completely agree, in fact I would say that Wolves game was the turning point not just for that season but in the 3 years since then. We haven't played consistently well ever since despite a huge turnover in players and staff. Makes you wonder where we would be now if Fielding hadn't had his moment of madness

I was mortal the next day: had to be back to Heathrow for 8am for a flight home. Starting at noon with a United supporting mate who had bagged an away ticket didn't prove to be a wise decision. At the next home game my sister was in my ST seat and she heard the lads behind her talking "that's the poor girl who had the drunk falling over her at United." Not my finest hours at football. I've never been so happy or proud to walk away from a game after a defeat.

Makes you wonder where we would be now if Fielding hadn't had his moment of madness I just look back and wonder tbh- we should have made the playoffs that year IMO. Just worth looking at the table from that evening- then subtracting 2 goals from Wolves to extrapolate it an hour in- not only were we heading 2nd putting the pressure onto them, we were also dragging them right back into the scrap for top 2. Condensed Christmas period, quite a young squad- very talented of course and with a notable manager, gap halved for them from 10 to 5 points in a week, and games on Monday and Tuesday before their next one that would have seen the gap narrowed further- yes that could have put some doubts in there, especially with away games vs Cardiff, Fulham, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough- maybe Preston too- in the 2nd half of the season! 15 unbeaten in 2018/19 and then a mini surge in late March-into April with some high scoring- ie 3-2, wins maybe the last time? Though we had little luck in that run-in either! However yeah, that game was pivotal for me, for all sorts of reasons. Who is to say, if we had not let him go in and make it 1-1, we don't win anyway with 11 v 10 and the crowd still up! Although had we dropped Flint back in, the whole situation may have been avoided anyway. Here was the table at the end that day, albeit with my little edit. Had we seen it out, as we can see Wolves dragged back into the scrap- plus their tough 2nd half of season away games in bold! Actually having checked, more than I thought! Cardiff, Leeds, Aston Villa, Preston, Middlesbrough, Ipswich and Fulham! The tighter the table, the less margin for error, the more pressure. However by the full time whistle they were 10 ahead of 2nd, 3rd ahead of us- the way they celebrated they knew they had one foot in the PL! As for us in that revised table, 2 ahead of Derby, 3 Cardiff, 8 Leeds, 9 Sheffield United and Aston Villa, 10 Preston, 12 Middlesbrough- 14 Fulham- and an amazing 20 of Millwall- yet we finished below all but one of those, when those gaps start to open up after halfway it's usually a pretty good indicator yet we capitulated. Quote As It Stood Team P GD Pts 1 Wolves 25 25 55 2 Bristol City 25 16 50 3 Derby 25 18 48 4 Cardiff 25 12 47 5 Leeds 25 9 42 6 Sheff Utd 25 9 41 7 Aston Villa 25 9 41 8 Preston 25 5 40 9 Middlesbrough 25 8 38 10 Brentford 25 7 37 11 Ipswich 25 3 36 12 Fulham 25 2 36 13 Norwich 25 -6 31 14 Nottm Forest 25 -9 31 15 Millwall 25 0
Curr Avon
That was a perfect day for me. I'd planned to meet my friend at Cafe Nero in Clifton Village at 2pm that day, but arrived 50 minutes early to a pleasant surprise. Tucked away alone in the corner was Lee Johnson. I ventured over and exchanged pleasantries - whilst heaping praise on the man that I had vociferously criticised the previous season. Aren't some people pedantic eh? I also recall enquiring about the substitutes that evening. LJ confirmed that Bakinson, who had been a squad member in previous rounds, wasn't on the bench. Anyway, LJ's wife and daughter arrived soon after - to rescue him. I incorrectly guessed her name and wished them all a happy Christmas and best wishes for the evening.
