Watch Wells movement for the first goal.

Very good - hadn’t particularly noticed but two good movements - especially liked the (second) drop off to find the space

Movement from Martin too- they reacted too each others

Also good from Rowe and Hunt - the two full backs both got  in box , for the cross

We had 5 players in the box (And on POMOS  !) when COD put the cross in

and Bakinson just outside the D

5 or 6 players in the box was a feature of our attacking play under Holden’s caretaker-ship.  It’s been lacking in recent months. It was noticeable how many players we managed to get in the box in those early Holden days, particularly on the counter-attack we’d flood forward.

As for Wells’ movement there, in fairness, his first run was a proper strikers run, and Rowe probably should’ve got his head up and slipped the ball into him - the gap was there to slide it in behind the CB and Wells be in on goal.

Yes - Agree about bodies in box

And yes re Wells first run - tbf to Rowe the full back came across requiring him to thread thro a tight closing gap , but the full back doing so allowed him to set COD up for the cross

I liked the second movement - a goal scorers move - everyone else moving in - find the space

Lineker used to say he was constantly looking for space , and if he found space enough balls would find him

...and I think that was down to the fact we got our midfield higher up the pitch, and it was Wycombe defending the edge of the box.

The highlights don’t cover the whole phase.  Wycombe cleared a ball in their left back spot, but instead of the ball falling into space 30 yards out, Nagy reads it and intercepts.  I can’t recall the next sequence of events, but Bakinson gets in it twice in that final 30/35 yards before squaring to Rowe.  The rest is history.  But it comes from Nagy and Bakinson being high-up and able to stop Wycombe getting out....which is what Wycombe did to us second half.

If your midfield can play higher then it becomes easier to get them to join up attacks and be in / around the box and numbers in it.

We had one short passing spell second half, where we went side to side, before eventually getting Hunt free 25 yards out.  So it also gets your full-backs into the game too.

We just don’t do that enough of late.  Too keen to spring the incisive pass when not in full control, and we turnover the ball.

Too many times Rowe got it yesterday in the second half and wanted a short pass to keep the ball moving and Nagy wasn’t as available as he normally is and Callum is running 50 yards away from him, leaving Rowe with a Hoddle pass to make.  We have to be more aware of patterns of play and situational play.

As for this thread....I read all 20 pages last night.  I think some should perhaps go back and read their own posts, if not everyone else’s too.  Wow! ???
