January Outlook.

Jeez

Recommended Posts

Really can’t see where the points will come from in Jan based on the current performances, upcoming fixtures & player availability.

We could easily drop to 15/16 if we concede a few against a Brentford. If teams below 16th start picking up points the outlook could become even more bleak by Feb and narrative on here could deteriorate further.

Preceding games in Jan are going to be difficult & can foresee losses at: Norwich, Preston & Derby. Possibly a draw v Hudds.

Appreciate the 1st team is depleted but what we can with the tools we have to to try & turn it around?

What signings can we expect? If any.

Think the club have backed themselves into a corner with DH appointment, they made such a statement about the right man etc. Hopefully they’ll back him with support in Jan through quality loans at least.

We are clearly in a mess and whilst having an horrendous injury list that is no excuse for the boring and unattractive football that frankly is painful to watch and flies in the face of everything DH promised.

Now it’s Steve who makes the final call  you have to assume that Ashton/JL made the recommendation to present DH as their preferred candidate.

Now understanding FFP is tight we need help urgently as bluntly how confident that we will see any of the long term injuries back before Feb?? Williams/Walsh I am beyond pissed off about and Pato seems to be drifting to long term so we have zero creativity.

We will call back Palmer/Pring/Adelaukan but that’s not enough as let’s face it if they were that good they wouldn’t be out on loan at the moment.

So January is make or break for us as unless Steve rights the wrong of his appointment through backing Holden with signings to help improve us we really are in the shit.  There’s no way DH will be sacked so no action will be either a reiteration that we are happy to plod along. If on appointment of DH they said we want stability, integrate youngsters and aim for mid table I might have accepted it on austerity grounds.

Steve over to you to help us out of problem as ultimately it’s on you as we are going backwards

Holden just confirmed on radio he's having a meeting tomorrow to discuss recalling anyone.

Apart from Janneh who is out injured long term, all players are being considered for recall.

None will be available for Brentford but if recalled immediately will be available for Portsmouth

I wouldn’t be spending much money in January unless it was a small part of a permanent rebuild

Pointless chasing top six - we arnt good enough

And if we were / are it’s only because so many other clubs are poor

Continue to look at and assess youngsters , don’t get many chances to do that at this level

Totally evaluate squad from top to bottom , and evaluate DH & Lieutenants work , at same time

Some big decisions regarding players and coaching team to be made before the summer

What in the squad needs replacing , and do we trust DH with that rebuild

What is the point in wasting money on any loans? We need about 15 points to stay up and have no chance of play offs

Or alternatively we are still (somehow) in touch with the play offs with half a season to go, despite a horrendous injury list, and need some stop gaps until we get other players back. And one of the loans could be the creative player we clearly need. If Blackburn can get Elliott are there not other young prem players looking for an opportunity?

Spot on anyone that thinks we will be anywhere near the play offs is dreaming.

If we can pick up a few points in the next 2 months it's time to give the boys he's had on the bench some minutes.

A well run football club will have already made those decisions.
I mean jeez, we’ve discussed it plenty on here, I’d hope the club have already had many meetings on this already - not just starting to have that conversation tomorrow.
They should already know the return dates of the injured players and consequently which players they’ll need to recall, and should have already had the conversations with those players and the loan clubs. These shouldn’t be last minute decisions.

Jan.... Sales.... ANY offer for any player will be accepted....our failure will continue to be blamed on Covid and injuries.....then an anouncement will be made that we will indeed "go again" and "build" for a assault on the top 6 again next year. This should be ignored however as it will be designed only to sell season tickets, there will be added incentives to this end.

If there is no improvement in results soon Holden maybe chucked under the bus by Ashton and co .....please dont get to excited though as we will no doubt, after about 8 weeks of thought, employ his side kicks to move us on to a new era of hope then go around again to this time next year.....enjoy.

Covid and injuries have had an effect on all teams in many leagues so far this season. I agree DH will be chucked under the bus and I think it will be before February.

I for one will not get excited as I’m over being let down. This season as a playing team, as a head coach in DH, as club owners only interest in rugby we are in the exact same position in the table as were the same time last year.

All sounds good. DH will not probably be trusted in a “rebuild” Lansdown will throw him under the bus by end of January. Decisions need to be made now in the winter not next summer or its deja vou all over again and again and again. We will be debating the same in 2022 ??

Why waste more money ? The signings he has got in haven’t worked and he’s not doing well with the existing players either

Because it not just about this season, we need to get some mojo back into the team be it through a combination of signings, loans & returnees. The coach isn't going anywhere at last until the end of the season but carry on as we are & the momentum will be lost, progress gone backwards and TST sales will also drop off.

Based on your reply it sounds like you're ready throw in the towel?

You're right - Cardiff, Watford, Reading, Barnsley, Boro & Swansea.

Unless something changes can't see how we cope with the above fixtures, add in Derby is on 30/1 we're looking at 7 games in 28 days all strong opposition.

Without reading all the comments, I feel as though it will be very tight at the end of the campaign as to whether we stay up. On one hand, I would like to see signings made to guarantee safety. I really don’t fancy us slipping to League One. On the other, if Holden is allowed to spend and ties players to a longer deal then it messes plans for his replacement (let us pray) at the end of the season. Then we are left with your Nicky Hunts, Damien Stewart’s and Paul Mortimers et al who inflate the squad on good money with zero quality added. I have little faith in the clubs recruitment at the minute.
