What would you do differently?

Worked on position, shape, attacking play etc in training.

The amount of times we knock the ball wide to someone and no-one is in the box or even making runs. The amount of times a CB or DM is on the ball and there's no movement around in front of them.

From a CBs perspective tonight, I thought both Nagy and Bakinson came short, but it was usually with someone marking them.  When Bakinson got it from Hunt I thought he tried to play it first time too often, with little to no success.  When Bakinson and Nagy couldn’t receive (from Vyner especially), they then watched the ball pumped over their heads.  Occasionally Martin got the ball into feet around the halfway line, but not often enough for it to be a clear approach.  I didn’t see enough movement from out-to-in from Semenyo to drag his full-back inside to create the option for Vyner to pass to Hunt, who could then slide it down the line.

On the other side, Massengo actually did a reasonable job of dragging Pearson (RB) forward to leave room in behind.  You could tell he wasn’t comfortable in the position, but he did some good stuff for the benefit of the team, showing good football IQ.  He wasn’t quite good enough on the ball overall, but he’s barely played, let alone LM/LW.

But in summary, it’s all a bit disjointed.

To be our only plan is get the ball out wide and play it across the box for someone to tap in. We have no other attacking threats, and its obvious.

No, agree, but then again we rarely keep the ball in the opposition third to build anything structured.  We give it away cheaply.  Some of that comes from confidence, bravery to accept the ball, but a lot of it comes from desire to make a run for your team mate.  Players like Paterson and Weimann are always on the move.  They might not always play well, but they are moving the opposition around, often for others to benefit.

Good points Dave re the wide players movements.
Semenyo, particularly in the first half, had chalk on his boots. He literally hugged the touchline nearly all half, therefore allowing no overlap for Hunt.
Whilst on the other side, HNM would come narrower when Luton had the ball and then sprint back out to the touchline once we regained possession. Often he would be facing away from play when sprinting out there and as a result he wouldn’t be available for a pass, early in our possession.
The wide play was just weird. And was clearly instructional, not natural.

Genuinely interested as to what you’d all do differently with our squad and tactics if you were Dean.

All very quick to blame him when we’re on a bad run but qclearly some of you don’t understand football enough to look beyond the manager.

We have 10, yes 10 first team players out injured, we can’t field a full bench and 4 of the 8 players on that bench have accumulated about 30 minutes of first team experience. So what team would you pick if you were Dean? Because apparently in our current situation you’re all expecting us to get maximum points.

No team can possibly sustain a winning, consistent run with the heavy schedule and the injury problems we have. We have no creativity in midfield, which is where the bulk of our injuries are and sadly until we get a few back we’re going to struggle to create.

When we had a much larger squad to pick from we played much better football and picked up a lot of points. So to blame Holden is absolutely ridiculous and deluded. Give the man a chance for god sake we’re not even halfway through the season.

I would resign

We have loads of play rats out injured. Several more unavailable because they are out on loan. How many are playing who should not be because they too are injured but there is no one else available, a situation made worse by the number of games being played in a short space of time. Playing a number of 17-19 year olds at the same time is a ridiculous suggestion. We had to do that in 1982, because we had no choice. That took us to the bottom of division 4, and most of them did not have a career in league football.

Players not play rats - predictive text !

Agree,we need to get back to a solid look 4 4 2 or 4 5 1.  We constantly give the ball away so cheaply. Bakinson and Vyner are trying but falling short of the level required for the championship. Semenya and C od both flatter to deceive, they both excite and frustrate in equal measures. We have got to stop playing players out of position. Both Martin and Wells should not be playing so wide. We need them central as a striking partnership as Semenyo can't hit a cow's ass with a Banjo from 3 feet. Our coaches need to concentrate on throw ins (embarrasing) and set pieces , also embarrasing.

I think your predictive text got it spot on.

The rats are deserting the sinking ship.

There are too many strikers who can't score and even with fit players we are not good enough to challenge.  To many nice things said about players who are not good enough Semenyo and Bakinson - his misplaced passes last night!!! Ultimately the manager carries the can and rarely in football do the in house chances work, just look at history.
