Feel sorry for Cam.
What a chance for him. Blown by the incompetence of our club.

Don’t know if the lad has suffered injury while on loan, but it would seem to be dreadful bad luck to get injured so soon after returning to the club, or there’s another reason?

I conflated medical and fitness earlier in my previous reply but essentially, as I understand, it is both.

Theoretically we should have a specialist medical and fitness team or who are involved in the design of the fitness aspects training and ensure it is done in a way that builds fitness and reduces the risks of injury. I don't know exactly how our coaching is set up but I think that, whilst Holden and the first team coaches would oversee it, they should be getting input from the fitness coaches who should be designing and organising appropriate fitness training and ensuring that the other training that is planned is not likely to cause avoidable injuries.

The number of injuries suggests to me that either:

a) Holden, Downing and Simpson are not communicating their plans to the fitness team.

b) Holden, Downing and Simpson are ignoring feedback from the fitness and medical team as to the risks of injury.

c) The fitness and medical team are not giving the right feedback on the risk of injury from our non-fitness training

d) The fitness and medical team are designing our fitness training in a way that inadvertently aggravates rather than prevents injuries.

The fact that this feels like a continue on from problems in previous seasons despite a substantial overhaul in first team staff makes me think it's not likely to be a) or b). It could be that Holden is the factor but that feels incongruous with the interviews he gives and the fact that staff and players suggest he communicates well makes me think it is less liekly.

So I feel it might be c) or d)

But in any case something is obviously going wrong in the structure.

Great review of the current situation but surely - at least according to @Bassomylord, you should have identified how we can implicate Mr Ashton (a non medical / training person) into any of the reasons as to why we have such a big list of similar injuries.

Doesn't the injury occur before the medical staff get involved?

Shouldn't questions be aimed at the training plan/schedule and possibly the training facilities? Isn't this the coaching teams area of responsibility?

Ok, let’s put some stuff we’ve been told by the club:

Holden was involved in preparing pre-season, as there was no appointment at that point.  It was done in conjunction with Andrew Rolls we were told.

Now, conjecture on my part.....Holden would’ve primarily been advised by Rolls from a pure fitness and conditioning point of view.  I would imagine Dean would be working out how the football but would fit in / compliment the fitness side.  I’m sure Patrick Orme would have input too, as the conditioning guy.

Now, back to training.  Will comprise warm-up, fitness, football, warm-down in a simplistic schedule.  Some may be combined, e.g. fitness with football to make it seem less like fitness work.

Patrick Orme runs the “fitness” elements of the days training....we’ve seen plenty of video of him leading these sessions.  He’s also there when they’re doing football bits too.

What we don’t know is who constructs each days training, but we’ve been told the coaches and fitness team meet daily to review data and plan the session.

Now, more conjecture on my part.  Dean is not a fitness specialist.  He will have to be guided by the fitness team.  If he ignores them when they say a player is fatigued then he’s stupid.  But we don’t know that.

this is the team involved with the first team (for info):

Head of Performance: Andy Rolls
Head Physiotherapist: Andrew Proctor
First Team Physiotherapist: Gill Holt
Head of Fitness & Conditioning: Patrick Orme

Proctor is seen on the training too.

That’s easy if you want to.  Rolls was with Ashton at Watford.

We must be looking at getting a left back in now. Can’t just rely on Tommy Rowe .

Yes if he over does it he will be DIZZY.

It’s ok. I’m sure our incredible recruitment team will have a lengthy list of expensive has-beens and no-marks to tempt in, who will be ever so excited about the “ambitious project” they’re sold.

Aren't most of our injuries central midfielders or left footed defenders? Maybe we need to be looking closer at Tommy Rowe.

Tommy keeps seeing them off.  Hard as nails.

Is George Nurse a left back? If so let’s get him back and injure him too

We do have a recall option.

When have we ever had anything like this ?

About three or four seasons ago. Can’t remember exactly

I would say never. We have a bigger squad than we would have carried pre Johnson . We have had around 10 players out regularly , take 10 from the squad that Cott's got promoted and we wouldn't have had a team.

@Davefevs when we play pretty much every 3 days shouldn't training be light conditioning and shape/organisation ? You would think, specially with the injuries we started the season with, there would be reduced amounts of intensity . I know you can't help the odd injury, but the ones we get aren't short term niggles as you've said before. Now we have another tear to a player who had been playing regularly.

It does make you think there is something very wrong in how we train our players, whatever that may be.

Is it ?
it could well be down to our training. Everyone are picking up muscle injuries due to a condensed season but. What are we doing in training to pick up so many .

It indicates that the conditioning of the squad is not great IMO

No idea really.  It’s way beyond my knowledge areas.

However as I understand it, pre-season is meant to put a full charge into your battery, so you only need topping up mid season.

I can't imagine a player wanting to join a club where players get injured so quickly  and the medical team ensure that, whatever the injury, they seem to have little chance of returning to play before the season ends. How long this farce can be allowed to  continue is anybody's  guess.

I didn’t buy into the idea that the fitness team were incompetent previous to this and felt many of the injury’s were unlucky but the fact so many muscle injuries have happened in training,  which should be tightly regulated with warm ups, warm downs etc. There are definite questions to answer. By the sound of DH in the presser he thinks the same. He would have denied there was an issue otherwise and stood up for his team in face of some now high profile negative attention if he felt it was unwarranted.

Not unlucky anymore, it's got beyond silly now. Lad returns to us and 1 week later he pulls a Hamstring.

Medical staff need replacing

Starting with Ashton's mate that he bought in - Rolls. It's a shambles, and I've read that Rolls has preceded over dreadful injury records at past clubs too.

I’ve only read Gregor’s transcript....want to listen to the audio later, to hear how he sounds.  The words appear to say “I’m effin pissed off with it”!

Which presser is this? I’ve seen Deano’s latest YouTube comments but nothing else.

Usually there’s a transcript of the presser but I haven’t seen one.

Based on Holdens press conference it wouldn't surprise me if heads roll at the end of the season.

Now, THAT'S a serious injury !

Might be serious for today’s mollycoddled players, but back in the day you’d be told to "run it off”!
