Rotherham v Derby - referee

I wasn't sure whether to stick it on the Derby administration thread but glad someone posted it. Bielik was lucky indeed to avoid a 2nd yellow!

Was Lowe's goal for Swansea offside too? Would have to see it again as was only half paying attention but saw it and then one report suggested it was.

@Sheltons Army Seen various newspaper snippets/reports in recent weeks have suggested that as a whole Championship clubs are concerned about the general standard of refereeing at this level.

In some ways I actually have some respect for Rooney for taking the job on

Not an easy gig to say the least ,  and , with his background , he could have waited for a more appealing , and higher starting point,  into management

If they were to go down I think he’d actually learn more in the next few months , and that may actually hold him in good stead going forward

The publicity afforded to him and WRDC is not his fault

Agreed, though the starting point for varied ex famous players does seem to be somewhat cushier than others.

Not even sure if he has his coaching badges (not that it matters so much except from a principle of equality of regulation), but this trend of appointing famous ex players- unsure it'll serve clubs that well at the very top levels, the biggest prizes but that's their lookout.

The referee caused WR and DC a big problem on Saturday.

The optics could have been "You fought out a draw despite unfairly losing a player, how unlucky."

They are now "You lost to one of the two teams below you, and you should have had a player sent off as well, how rubbish."

No optic would be using the word unfairly ???

Glad somebody raised this

Some of the refereeing in the Championship yesterday was appalling

The Rooney effect exactly my thought

And as @Packmanhighlighted Deeney got away with a challenge few players would

Add the completely laughable sending off for Bournemouth

Three appalling decisions

Re the Bournemouth sending off, just remember that the referee had the 100% opposite angle than what the tv cameras showed you.

Yes, from the tv camera it looked a very harsh red, but just remember the referee gets one look and one angle, it may well have looked a clear red from his viewpoint.

But surely , at whatever angle he sees that Lemur is in fouled / nudged / affected causing his body shape and balance has to completely change ?

Quite possibly, but he also would have seen the elbow/arm into the face a lot clearer than the camera angle we saw.
