Davefevs
The stats speak for themselves. More important in a lower scoring Championship this season. 2.47gpg this season v 2.81gpg average over last 11 seasons.
BigTone
I always remember John Motson coming out with the classic "maybe they've scored too early". Sorry but I thought the whole idea was to score goals, preferably more than the opposition !!
cidercity1987
I think we've won every game this season when we have scored the first goal?
1960maaan
Didn't the commentator say that every game we've scored first this season, we've won.
Lrrr
Had a lecturer talk about how its a very small amount of games that will feature all 3 scorelines in 90 mins ie home team winning, drawing and away team winning. Therefore shows the importance of scoring early in that you're unlikely to then go on and lose the game.
Davefevs
My old manager at Bris used to say you set the tone in the first 5 minutes of the match. Start slow and it’s hard to pick it up. Lose your first battles early on and it’s a struggle thereafter.
TedsHeadIs Red
It’s the only stat that really matters in football - the number of goals your team scores in a match compared to the number of goals the other team scores in the same match. And the earlier you start scoring them the better, as the remaining time is continuously reducing. It’s a simple game really.
stephenkibby.
must just be us then, but how many think after we take the lead how long to go Ref.!!!
Mr Popodopolous
Was thinking about this the other day. Had we conceded first Saturday, it would have been a long road back given all we know about Preston...though we have gained points from losing position this season, see Barnsley away, Swansea at home, Huddersfield away and QPR away. Similarly, had we scored first vs Birmingham, Millwall and at Preston- possibly Rotherham too though they have some tactical divergences, possibly the games take a significantly different path. This is of course true, however there is a very valid flip side, usually more relevant in a game where you may be the "underdogs" where the later you score, the less time the other team have to respond. In addition, it could be that the better team, carving out the best chances, and with the more lethal finishers will tend to score first.

Of course, but we've all seen that NOT be the case, many, many times.
