Norwich City v CITY Official Matchday Thread

Recommended Posts

Just watching Points West and David gave out the score at HT 1 - 0 to Norwich, I am really annoyed as on the OS yesterday they gave the KO as 20.00 which is 22.00 here and it looks like the provider of my RB link must think the same as there is no commentary available yet. So when did they change the KO time?

I think you can put any system against them and they’ll pass around you.

If you go 352, they’ll go 2v1 out wide and if you push a CB wide to back up, they’ll exploit you in behind / more central.  They are a joy to watch, their midfielders run forward off of the ball with speed and purpose....not necessarily to receive the ball, but distraction minimum..

Essentially we need to be more aggressive and work harder.

Im pleased that we’ve tried to play a higher line.

If we are gonna chip balls into Martin and Diedhiou then the midfield need to commit to getting around them.

We need to keep the ball better, as Norwich are easily dragged out of position, suck the full-backs forward then channel for runner.  Might be better suited to Wells off of Fam.

Lots of work to do.

Catching up, this MDT is a fun read!!!

You’ve been lucky not to have seen it

Norwich are obviously a superior side to us and should rightly win on paper, but the way we just fold and hide in the shadows against the majority of top half Championship sides these days is totally embarrassing. I mean the gulf between us and those Prem teams in our Carabao cup run in 2017/18 was a bigger gulf in class than what we're facing today, yet we were tactically astute back then, playing to our strengths and not gifting superior opponents miles of space with zero pressure on the ball. WTF are we playing at really?

We've had 1 shot in 45 mins.

Here's the amount of shots other champ teams who have recently played at Carrow Road have had, regardless of the fact that they all still lost.

Barnsley: 8 shots

QPR: 12 shots

Cardiff: 10 shots

Forest: 13 shots

Wednesday: 11 shots

Not the best half - not really pressing them when in possession. Some ok moments, but definitely need to show more energy and intent.

I don't think the performance was  good enough this half, but to those who are being all out doom and gloom - just remember this is one of the best teams in the league and looking elsewhere (non BCFC bias views) we haven't been quite as bad as some are making out.

BBC Live text feed:

"Bristol City have had to get through some periods of Norwich pressure but they've certainly shown enough to suggest they can trouble the hosts. Famara Diedhiou has held the ball up nicely at times but he does often look a tad isolated."

"They soaked up the early pressure but Bristol City have grown into this now. Kasey Palmer is putting himself about in midfield and the visitors are pressing Norwich relatively high up the pitch."

Norwich Forum:

"Quite a big an' brawny bustling side are Brizzle"

"Not sure whether Dhiedeou has signed a new contract at Brizzle but he'd be the kind of centre forward I'd like to see us get, real handful"

Not saying we have been great or even at our best, but not the disaster some are making out.

I don’t think we have a chance trying to ‘out football’ Norwich, so we have to try something else. Push them, hassle them, but we aren’t good at that.

We have made half the passes Norwich have, and constantly have been on the back foot defending. Just booting it in desperation won’t work when Norwich are playing it straight back at us. Not nice to watch.

This.

I don't agree with all the posts saying we are poor or clueless. We just aren't getting enough of the ball.

We are defending pretty well, but I think Palmer and Adelekun are leaving us too lightweight in midfield.

Can't really blame the strikers when we are so rarely getting to that end of the pitch.

I'd like to see Bakinson and possibly Massengo (based on Saturdays improvement)

We need to get in their faces, at least disrupt their flow, even if they overcome that, then let's stop making it so easy for them.

Lucky to only be 1 down. Norwich look quality, but we are still in it, if we can stuck into them more and push them further up the pitch.

We didn’t do it in the home fixture and they sprayed the ball all over the pitch , tonight we’ve sat extremely deep and allowed them space - Kalas has made several last minute interceptions. Why aren’t we physical against teams like this?

HT 0-1

Norwich dominant as expected but City defending well generally and not playing badly.

Hunt and Rowe suffering with not a lot of cover in front of them, Adelakun leaving his runner too often in particular. But we do need to push up from the back and condense the midfield a bit more.

Nagy is on his own in the centre with Vyner not contributing too much - we need either Bakinson or Massengo on the pitch to get on the ball.

This game isn't lost yet as long as its just the one goal behind.

Poor tactics, if they have followed their instructions? Poor formation choice against a good Norwich team who dominate the ball, yes football is fluid etc etc, but 4-4-2 against this lot is madness. Not being able to keep hold of the ball, no movement, no courage on the ball & a total lack of pace or sharpness all over the pitch. So that’s the bad stuff, Bentley has looked good thou. COYR
