Safe.........but are we?

Recommended Posts

  • Rotherham currently 16pts behind but 2 games in hand.
  • Huddersfield at home then Derby away this month in the league, need some points from them.
  • Next month Brentford, Cardiff, Watford, Reading, Barnsley,Boro and Swansea...cant see many wins for us there.
  • Following month starts with Bournemouth so wont go there..

So safe are we? well should be but that does not mean we will be, how many are looking below now as it looks like thats the direction we are heading.

We certainly need our team to be just that a team and one that is up for a battle not just a stroll around to avoid what would be a disaster, hopefully there will be at least 3 worse than us come the end.

If we can beat PNE in a one-off game, we can win enough other one-off games not to worry....imho.

Yes we are safe. Lock the thread.

I think we'll be just about safe, but we'll make it interesting/uncomfortable along the way. Yes, injured players will return but will take time to get match fit. Those injuries will be replaced by more injuries. Lose Fammy as well and the points will start looking even harder to come by.

I think we’re safe. It’s yet another mid-table season.... history suggests we’ll get caught soon and be in a relegation battle. Maybe next year.

If I had to bet on our next way out of this division, up or down.... I could only make a case for “down” right now.

Yeh we will be fine. Probably only need 10 more points from 22 games.

How does that work with Rotherham in 3rd relegation spot 16pts behind and with 2games in hand? we have also got to play them again end of March(we have already been beaten by them) and other relegation favs Wycombe and Weds in a week in April.

Lets see if you are as confident at the end of a tough next month.

Personally i think that we will be closer to the play offs than relegation.

We have some very influential players to come back from injury, if the likes of Walsh & Williams hit the ground running we will be a different animal.

I honestly dont think we will see either of these two this season and if we do, we haven't really got a clue what Walsh will be like at championship level.

Really, the players you mention seem to be locked in a cupboard somewhere with no sign of being "fit" let alone playing and being our saviours. Weimenn, COD and Pato even further away from a start, can you not remember how "inconsistant" " run around a lot" "not worth a start" they were according to many on here?

There was a couple of players we gave away to Welsh clubs though, Pack and Smith could do with them right about...... well now really.

Just take a look at this brilliant Rotherham sides points per game and stop being a bloody wet wipe ffs.

What about the games you haven’t cherry picked in your list of points?

It works by extrapolating Rotherham’s current points per game over an entire season and getting 42 points.  We already have 36 points so 12 more takes us to 48 which would be enough to stay up.

So Rotherham averaging less than a point a game will automatically pick up 6 points from their games in hand right? Get some sleep.

If you think either Pack or Smith would solve our problems then you have a lot to learn. But going back to the original Q, we wont go down zero chance you need to get into the real world.

Being dragged into the mire this season isn't beyond the realms of possibility, but it's bloody unlikely.

The warning signs are there for all to see for next season, though, if this is allowed to drift for much longer.

We’ve got 24 points from the last 20 matches.  Although that is a lot more points than we’ve deserved from the balance of play across those matches, it’s a sufficiently long run of form (nearly half a season) to absolutely confirm that we are a bottom 6 team.

The question is are we a poor enough team to go on a run of say 13 points from 22 matches.  Yep, we’re that poor.  Let’s hope 3 other teams don’t get better.

We will stay up in spite of Holden I think. We have enough decent players to definitely keep us up.

I will be worried next season if we stick with him mind. Especially if we lose the likes of Fam.

Poor tactical manager and poor recruitment probably isn't a great combination.

How about the run of form that encompasses the entire season and suggests we are a top 10 team?

Luckily for us the league season doesn't pick and choose to make a point.

Even allowing for you to cherry pick the run of results to make your point you have still managed to get it wrong I'm afraid. The sixth from bottom team in the league which is Birmingham City are averaging 1.04 points per game. Your claim that 24 points from 20 matches is bottom six form simply does not hold water because that is 1.2 points per game which would give City 29 points over the 24 matches played (humouring you and ignoring the fact that we actually have 36 points obviously) and that puts us in 15th-16th position depending on goal difference.

In addition you use our 24 points over 20 games as a stick to beat us with over a long sample size and then claim that we are poor enough to get as few as 13 points from 22 matches when your own evidence suggests otherwise. You want to use evidence when it suits then go with your gut feel when it suits!! You are wanting your cake and eating it but unfortunately your cake has a shit filling rather than a chocolate one. Your "absolute confirmation" that we are a bottom 6 team is flawed, no other explanation for it.

You won’t find many as down on this team as i am. That said we’d have to be apocalyptically bad to be relegated this season with the points we already have on the board.

At the halfway point we were on pace for 72 points! Mind boggling and not indicative of performances but seems almost impossible to go from playoff form half a season to relegated. And while players coming back may not make us promotion contenders, I do think they help us put points on the board.

Yep definitely would be a major collapse from here to be relegated but agree with others that we are looking like a lower half (table) team who have just enough about us to nick the odd points here and there. February fixtures look particurly fruitless and we maybe closer to 15th/16th by the end of the month then we are close to the play offs.

We really do need to start seeing significantly more desire and intent in games along with a clear tactical plan/identity in the remainder of the season otherwise Holden will be under serious pressure.
