No it wasn't, it was the reason a previous emoji was removed which would give you a minus rather than a plus on your 'likes' total. A few posters were childishly going through historical posts to give a negative reaction to every post purely to reduce the number of likes of a poster they were in conflict with.

The aubergine emoji was removed more recently in direct response to a thread started by a poster saying he was going through a very rough time anyway and getting aubergines upset him further iirc.

On Owlstalk they have a thumbs up but I couldn’t see a thumbs down emoji

As far as negative emojis go a thumbs down emoji would be ideal. However the thumbs down in isolation always begs the question of why the poster issued it so an explanation would be helpful imo.

Just like you might give a thumbs up/like without explanation?

Readers don't always have time to give detailed explanations, nor might they want to get involved in arguments - that's the point of emojis surely, to register your feelings about the post instantly?

If you're not going to include an obviously negative/disapproving one, why have reactions at all? :dunno:

If I like a post that indicates that I agree with it - no need for explanation. Not the same as if I gave a negative emoji ( not that I give many) and I’d be more than willing to explain. That said I realise I’ll be in the minority.

Similarly a thumbs down would mean you don't agree with it - no need for an explanation, although like you I'd be happy to give one if pressed.

Why wouldn't they believe that?
We currently sit in eighth, three points off sixth place, and it's fair to say we've had more key injuries than most around us.
There's no way of telling how this season will go in this league, it's a bizarre season. Same in the Premier League.

Holden has done a great job getting this group of players to 8th place so far. You can’t argue with that and I’ve never placed any blame at his door anyway.

However the way we have accumulated those points which is in the main relying on individual pieces of skill to go ahead then rely on our back 6 players to defend for dear life as per Tuesday which was the most extreme case yet says to me that we are not a top 6 quality squad, we are a mid table squad over achieving due to tremendous team spirit (which is why posters who claim the lads aren’t trying are either idiots or unable to control their emotions in my view).

We do not have the ability to take teams on and dominate games. We generally get dominated but make full use of the passages of play when we are in the final third. That has to be accepted as fact based on what we are watching doesn’t it? What concerns me is people think Xavi and Inestia will return from injury and all of a sudden this will change overnight. Don’t bank on it.

I have always thought that the idea of approval points to be a bit pony. The fact is that regular posters know who is good who is bad etc etc. Anyone new can make up their own mind.

Approval points and the thought of negative approval points is IMO a bit childish, the thought that people who didnt like people put a negative emoji to reduce a persons approval rating is as juvenile as it gets.

I would suggest if people want to know how ‘approved of’ they are then just keep the count on the posters profile page, a place I only ever go, for someone else, if my finger has slipped somewhat on my iPhone!!

The thumbs up or down thing is fine, and a count for any given post is fine too just take the total count under the posters name away IMO!

Not really for me, as it's all relative to how other clubs in the division are performing: the areas in which they are doing well, and the areas in which they are doing badly.
I haven't watched every single game that every other team has played, so I couldn't say for sure. But consulting the other teams' forums before and after their games against us tells me that many fans are dissatisfied with some or other aspects of their performances just as we are on here.

One thing I will always stick by, though, is that the table never lies. Certainly not at the end of the season, and certainly not halfway through the season.

Personally, I think we'll get better if and when players return, but as you say they are not the Messiahs. Whether that is good enough remains to be seen. Personally, I think we've got a good chance of finishing in the top 6. You feel differently and give valid points for feeling that way, that's fair enough.

I certainly won't be one of those who comes on here crowing about mid-season predictions if we do end up finishing top 6 because, with this season being a strange one, it's a bit like betting on red or black in roulette and then running around the casino shouting "I told you it would be red, I told you it would be red" after red comes in. What you think might happen is just as likely as what I think might happen in this particular season.

Agreed, and that ability to reduce a posters approval rating was curtailed pretty sharpish for exactly that reason.

The rest of it is only a bit of fun surely, just a quick way to show your feelings about any post you deem worthy of a reaction.

As for total points, also not to be taken too seriously imo., although a bit lopsided against those of us who made many thousands of posts before the emoji system came in. Perhaps in our halcyon posting days too!

I think the whole thing works quite well and adds to the forum - just lacks the aubergine, or similar, which some posts truly merit.
