Depends on the % of wages we are paying. Zero chance it will be 100%

Even at 50% it’s still bloody expensive and well above our average wage.
Has anyone at Ashton Gate seen our latest accounts??? Laughable.

Who said it was 20%?

No one. I’m unsure what your line of questioning is?
If we’re paying 20% (8k per week) then it looks better but is still an unnecessary expense.
Highly doubt we’d be paying as little as 20% though, aren’t you?

I simply refuse to believe this. FFS. Where do we have the most cover? Midfield.

The only thing stopping offering Walsh a contract is finances and we’re all set to sign the biggest championship prima-donna In history who’s hardly gonna come cheap.

Brilliant.

City don’t have much cover in midfield Fordy. Palmer, Nagy, Massengo, Vyner (only recently) Bakinson and who else?

One or two injuries /suspensions and the cupboard pretty bare.

If, and it’s a big if, we don’t bring in a left back then how can anyone be happy with this?

Because what does us not signing a left back have to do with us signing a proven quality midfielder that's an upgrade on everything we have in said position?

Paterson and Joe Williams back in training now. Williams obviously got 45 mins under his belt at the weekend and you have to hope Walsh will be back in next couple of months too.....

Yeah I’m not too sure at all - maybe, just maybe, it’s because our ceo just did a round of media pleading poverty, and then rather than using what surely must be a tight budget to sign a player in an area we have no actual specific players to play in, say left back, we sign an injury prone over thirty on a massive wage in an area we have cover and players coming back from injury?

just a thought though. Not sure why I needed to join the dots for you to be honest

No I think it would be maximum 20% as Ashton won't fork out for those wages during this time.

Tommy, our manager doesn't want a left back evidently. It's not because of a lack of finance, otherwise we wouldn't be sanctioning this deal. There are many cheaper options out there.

Crazy - not wanting a left back, as in not one, specialist fit left back, but go after another midfielder - wow. It makes you happy tho so it’s all good

Vent your anger at Holden then, it's his choice. Doesn't mean Lansbury isn't a good signing because Holden doesn't want a left back.

According to GmG it may be a permanent contract, with Villa releasing him early. That would be crazy imo but surely MA is smarter than this?

If this is the case then no wonder Walsh wants to go. We can't offer him a contract but can Lansbury.... hmmm.....

Doesn’t make much sense to me either really but perhaps means Holden can play the formation he wants for the rest of the season? There is a hell of a championship player in there but has been rarely seen for the past 2-3 seasons. Will he be a motivated 30 year old who wants the last 4-5 years of his career competing at a high level or is he content getting another, say 2.5 year deal, and drifting in and out of contention? No doubt if we get a motivated Lansbury we get a top championship player but that is a massive “if.”

If that's your opinion, fine, but the last five permanent signings we’ve made (according to Transfermarkt) were:

  • Mariappa - 34 - signed November 2020
  • Brunt - 36 - signed September 2020
  • Martin - 32 - September 2020
  • Williams - 23 - August 2020
  • Wells - 30 - January 2020.

The average age of the last five permanent signings we’ve made - 31.

It appears that we are adopting the same policy with players that we are with the head coach... promote youth from within, but surround them with veterans of the game. It's like we've given up on players in their prime, hence bye bye Fam!

I don't like it either. Brunt should have taught us a lesson. Also how are Bakinson and Massengo going to get minutes with Williams and Lansbury joining Nagy, Palmer and Paterson as midfield options?!

Someone off if this is true surely?

Can't be Walsh, the club have repeatedly, and very recently, maintained he's still injured. Ruled out now for the season perhaps?

Surprise departure on the cards then, or Lansbury's wages being covered by incoming fee for Fammy?

Can't see how else we can afford it in an area we are fairly well stocked - a very curious signing nobody would have predicted.

Villa fans are not generally known for showing any love for our club but given the number of their fans saying "take him, he's shit" or words to that effect, it doesn't suggest it would be a quality signing.

Also, it looks like he's spent the best part of the last 5 or 6 years in the treatment room. That's the last thing we need.

Injury prone, 30 years old and not played more than 10 games in a season for over 4 years.

No thanks.

Injury prone a typical Ashton and Bristol City signing.

Can we stop talking about it and hopefully it will all just go away.

Don’t know why I started the damn thread... it certainly wasn’t for people to add fuel to the fire! FFS.

Go and have a sit down pal - you're working yourself into an early grave.

For what little it's worth - with no knowledge of the finances just looking at the player - I think it's a decent signing.
