Could have been a worse performance and, even with that performance, could have been a far worse result but it has nonetheless reinforced that there is a massive gulf in class between us and the top sides in the division. Getting players back from injury will help a bit but the fact remains that teams like Brentford are much, much better than we are. I'd love us to learn from them.

Unfortunately, if you don't play consistently well, or even average, for 90 mins, you're not going to get results in this league.

Same old really.

One day, we'll get it right, hopefully.

The annoying thing is, with just that bit of consistency we can be competing at the top.

3-2 makes it sound a close match. Nothing further from the truth. As Brentford regularly score at will City had to plan to score a couple of goals (not when it was too late) So why leave Wells on the bench till it’s too late?

Are you watching SL?

That was the starkest reality check yet this season to show just how far we are off the play off pace.

Forget losing to teams with parachutes, look at Brentford a comparable club, but streets ahead on and off the pitch.

Let’s be honest, those of you finding lots of positives from tonight, sorry you can’t have been watching the game. Don’t be fooled by the scoreline - it wasn’t close.

Reflecting over the 90 mins, we played ‘well’ for 15. If you take positives from that, that shows how poor it’s been this season. (and that we didn't lose by 7)

We basically put up a temporary flood defence with the early goal but it was inevitable the waters would find a way through, and they did.

Expected, but still bitterly disappointing when it happens!

Wouldn’t mind seeing that system with a centre forward that moves the centre halves around abit.

Diedhiou was static for most the game and it was too easy for their centre halves.

Must be infuriating for the rest of the team when everyone around him is trying to press and close angles and he just walks about the pitch.

Oh and not getting in a LB.....wow, looks a shocker now. Rather see an u18 player there than Mariappa.

Decent performance first half and then Brentford exploited our weakness. Not having a left back has really screwed us potentially progressing to a top 6 finish.

But happy with tonight all things considered!

No offence and not snarking but it’s Brentford. We shouldn’t be happy about how far we have regressed behind them in the last few years.
