Criteria we need in a new manager

Isn't there a basic criteria to assess potential managers:-

1. Experience as a manager and a captain during playing days.

2. Prior experience leading a team to promotion from Championship into Premier.

3. has experience bringing new blood and fresh young players into a team.

4. Can establish values in a team and expectations.

5. Willing to challenge senior management ( Not a proven "Yes" man)

6. Ability to develop younger players.

Anything else?

You would never have given Wenger or Graham Taylor a job!

There really shouldn't be any need for anybody to apply

The board should already have a shortlist of potential targets having been through this whole process in the not so dim and distant past

I would expect the new manager (whoever that may be) to be approached by the club and not the other way around

Fingers crossed they have learned a lesson and make a more appropriate appointment this time. Season ticket sales depend on it

Diversity targets and all that jazz mean the clubs will need to ensure a fair and inclusive recruitment policy has been followed.

Pathetic if we were to "await applications" and sift through them, shortlist, interviews, etc as if we are advertising for a Data Entry Clerk or similar.

This is top class sport, you identify the best person - probably someone in a job already - and go and target them, sell the vision, sell the club, the ambition and get the very best you can.

The single most important job the CEO has to do is identify and appoint the correct person. everything else flows from that (as as happened with Bears/Lam).

I really don't think Ashton, despite all his self aggrandisement  is up to this task, unfortunately.

Good grief this isn’t difficult. And it’s not like “head-hunting” isn’t a well-known recruitment method.

The shortlist should be short. Needs experience and success at this level and can start immediately. Not exactly difficult. A few phone calls, a little bit of haggling about salary (we are in a very weak position on that one!) agree terms and get the person appointed ASAP and ready to take training on Monday.

Oh yes, he's up to the task and that is probably getting his mate Appleton in. Once again the old boys club and a person who won't rock the boat.

Lansdown mentioned about one or two names that they might want to approach added to the initial list. Does anyone think that this means there are actual names they like that they see fitting in to the structure or is he just supposing a couple of names might turn up. Surely they must have had thoughts on some people in mind and been sounding out while things have been so dire. They don’t do business behind backs. All very honourable, but football isn’t an honourable business. Nobody would want to knife someone in the back, but if things are going so badly wrong any organisation worth it’s salt will have a contingency plan.
