Tactically inept. It's like they've never been coached before.

Barnsley on the other hand...player for player not better...but we'll drilled, play to an obvious system and are doing it well.

We are playing into there hands. It's like we haven't been shown how to counteract their way of playing.

They play high press and in packs...congested areas.

We should be winning ball and peeling away into the vast spaces and countering.

Simple things at throw ins. They congest the area to receive. Pull away...it's very very simple FFS ??

To be honest, expectations were low today, we're in awful form, Barnsley doing well and the same coaches in charge who were also culpable for the recent debacles - what can they realistically achieve in 2 days training.

Well we seemingly have gone old school - long ball to the big man. Palmer is trying to get close to Fam, and has done on occasion. Unfortunately, there's only been a few notable moments (apart from a mix up at the back), on a break, Fam holding up, Palmer to Semenyo, Hunt into box but snuffed out and a routine save from a distance Fam shot.

So...despite all the 'talk' (again) we watch another half of football with 1 shot. 1 shot on target and 39% possession.

Interestingly Rene praised Downing for his defensive preparation...well, jesus, it's not showing on the pitch enough. Yes 0-0 but we gave up several very good chances and look shaky on every set piece.

Kalas has to be fair had an excellent half, but Taylor Moore for me is the poster boy for what's wrong with our youth talent ID - nice human, works hard but consistently not good enough on the pitch, at one point gifting them an open goal which we were incredibly lucky to survive.

Lansbury and Vyner ineffective. Fam in and out. Semenyo full of running.

So again we go into half-time with that slightly sinking feeling that we've seen what we've got to give and the opposition, can probably, step up a gear second half. Maybe that's unfair, hoping i'm wrong!

First half in essence. Greater effort/intensity from us and a much more deliberate direct approach which means much less passing sideways/backwards and going nowhere in our own half. Kalas leading by example.

However, our forward play is wildly hopeful with FD and AS not on the same wavelength, so when we do get the ball forward we don’t look threatening, unlike Barnsley, who have created numerous good chances and should be leading.

Think we are going too direct with a long ball most of the time which means FD and AS are isolated. Need to hold it a bit longer in midfield and then slip it through with more care/creativity.

Managed our customary one shot on target and no corners. Given our fragile confidence and recent performances this is a little more encouraging and a small step in the right direction.

I will be astounded if a guy coming into this club from the outside decides:

To play a centre-forward who is leaving the club in 4 months

That Taylor Moore is good enough for Championship football

To play Zak Vyner in a Championship midfield

He might, just might see what happens if Kasey Palmer and Nahki Wells (as a striker), are on the same pitch at the same time.
