Mr Popodopolous
Could explain a few things, though in theory we could be one of the clubs that benefit. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/02/19/exclusive-championship-brink-treasury-puts-brakes-bail-out/ Sadly the article I assume will be behind a Paywall but some interesting snippets...I saw this late last night and it doesn't seem terribly relevant given our current woes on the pitch but. Also a BBC article maybe small update or similar. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9281413/Championship-EFL-expresses-disappointment-100m-bail-loan-delayed-Government.html https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56137353 In the article I saw last night, there were some interesting clauses- I'll try and find that one too. Mr Popodopolous
It's quite significant as IIRC the article last night suggested that new contracts couldn't be higher wages than existing ones, that was one of the stipulations. Ah yes, found it- in the Telegraph article. Could this explain the lack of contract renewals in the League to date? Quote But, as revealed by The Daily Telegraph, the brakes were put on the emergency funding less than 12 hours before the first instalment was due amid a dispute over curbs on goal bonuses, new contracts and wage rises that has placed cash-strapped clubs at severe risk of being unable to pay bills. On one level fair enough- because why should bailouts go on player spending of any kind? Bailouts, loans- whatever, about survival not expansion. I've got a trick as well- cached surely, not that I would condone such things but someone I know told me.
Mr Popodopolous
The last couple of posts aside, I wonder which Championship clubs are basically in a lot of trouble. "Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked". Yes it's exceptional circumstances, unseen since WW2. However which clubs are continuing to meet their PAYE obligations eg? Read that this PAYE Holiday ends 31st March 2021, bit of a cliff edge?? Those who have taken advantage of it might have a big problem. Wonder which ones? The wider implications of this are that it could be a bit of a backdoor way to impose pay restraints in a division that definitely needs it. Take that, Gordon Taylor! Lrrr
Yeah the line about contacts stood out to me, so basically definitely no new deal for Famara then. also the whole thing is nearly as bad as imposing loans on national league clubs, some of which have in their constitutions that they can’t take on debt, Chester for one.
