If It's Pearson... will he keep to Watford's 4-2-3-1?

This site really makes me smile..........:).......asking what formation Pearson will use and which players will get selected.............

The most amusing part tho is that NP hasn’t been officially announced yet............:dunno:

I wonder what’ll happen if he doesn’t join us.........

Sigh - It's a Forum (look it up for clarification) and this is the "Football Chat" section (sub-heading "All things footbal") and the title clearly states "If".

Can see the 4-2-3-1 working.

wells playing in his proper roll may decide to pull his socks up.

3 advanced players behind him, possibly semenyo/paterson left side, massengo/Walsh right side and Palmer/Lansbury central of the pair.

two holding midfielders in Nagy and bakinson or more ideally Williams if he made a miraculous recovery (unlikely)

vyner should drop back to defence imo.
back four of vyner mariappa kalas and sessegnon.

personally don’t trust hunt and we should defo not renew him but he’s a backup for now until we get a better more specialist rb in summer at which point, vyner goes more central alongside kalas possibly.

For me depends what he's on and whether its an amount we can justify paying a back up player with a new RB recruited as first choice. Questionably Opi being the alternative as backup re-focusing Taylor Moore as a backup RB as he was at (I think) Southend as he'd still be under contract. Could well be looking to send Opi on loan for a chance to show what he can do over a season with regular game time. We should focus on Vyner as a CB moving forward, feel theres a chance of developing a decent pairing between him and Kalas with some work, Dasilva LB if he can stay fit means just recruiting a RB.

Walsh could play as one of the two DMs too...effectively the deeper playmaker role he played for Cov.

Starting to see flexibility with fitness

Definitely should at least try Semenyo Palmer and Paterson as the 3 behind Wells to give them a chance, as probably our most potentially creative players. As has been said, Palmer has i believe played as a 10 behind Wells before.

I'd be surprised if Paterson lasts 3 games with Pearson in charge!

I’d maybe play

Bentley

Hunt Mariappa Kalas Sess

Nagy Bakinson

Semenyo Palmer Paterson

Wells

I think this is probably the best for what we have at the moment. With Massengo and Lansbury to fill in anywhere in the 3 (or possibly the 2 tbf).

COD could also be good when he comes back in the wide positions.

4-2-3-1- although if I have a reservation then it'd be Palmer.

Playing him as one of the wider 3 in the 4-2-3-1, dunno about that. Playing him central and again a risk of 3 v 2, but if it's more of a counter with quick breaks that mitigates some of those risks.

Ideally, a more attacking/adventurous/technical yet true CM as the central in the 3 IMO. Semenyo wide right- Johansen would have been ideal for that central of the 3 in front, so too would Hourinhane IMO. Wide left? Would think Paterson though his form has not been up to much since his return and there were questions about his fitness raised Saturday I think.

Current available personnel? Lansbury central of the '3'- just have that fear of 3 v 2 in central areas if it's Palmer as Palmer isn't a true CM but on the flip side if given license he might cause the opposition a problem or 2 and pull their central  midfielders out of positon.

IF Walsh becomes fit (match fit as well as technically fit) any time soon could we consider in the 3-1 part.

             Bentley

Hunt Vyner Kalas Sessegnon

        Bakinson Nagy

Semenyo Lansbury Paterson

                 Wells

Walsh if fit comes into consideration for the central of the 3 IMO.

Mariappa has his uses but if we want to press high, I worry a bit. Watford fan said this on Twitter before our thrashing by them. Certainly not the quickest.

Agreed. Think we have missed him, if only as a different option off the bench. Our attacking play has been pitiful this season.

Semenyo isn't the answer. He's part of the problem.

That problem being the owner's insistence on seeing youngsters playing in the first team. That's fine, in theory. What you must also have is a Coach strong enough to say, "Absolutely Steve, but only if they're good enough".

Holden wasn't that Coach. Pearson might be, if he hangs around. I also suspect Hughton would have been and told them so at interview, one of the reasons he didn't get the job.

Semenyo is too raw and - for a club the owner insists is aiming at the Premier League - it will take him too long to get up to the required standard. Not good enough. Imo.

On Saturday, Semenyo's pace forced a mix up between the Barnsley goalkeeper and a defender which left Kasey Palmer with - literally - an open goal. It was from a difficult angle but if any City player could have scored from there, it's Palmer. What happened? Semenyo ran into Palmer and the opportunity was lost. Utterly, utterly brainless. Good athlete, average technique (borderline poor in front of goal for a striker), zero brains.

Ditto Taylor Moore. Not good enough.

(Bakinson, not ready, only playing due to injury crisis. Might be ok but we're talking long term. Ditto Towler, thrown in at deep end, way too soon.)

Vyner is the only one - so far - who can justify getting games at this level. Imo.

So, imo, playing youngsters to appease the bloke who unbelievably gave you the job, even though they're not good enough, is part of the reason for this season's shambles. Along with a catastrophic injury list annd the obvious fact the Coach himself was nowhere near good enough.

Disagree with TM comment. Like I’ve said in different posts. Constantly defending for 90mins is always going to force a mistake. He is improving and with a more competitive midfield you’ll see more solid defensive back 3/4 with TM he’s also a good footballer at this level. Louis Carey wasn’t a great defensive player and was prone  to a howler from time to time, as he got more experience he became stronger and ended up a leader which equaled going down as one of our best.

Walsh would play in the deeper 2 imo.

Like the maestro Pirlo.

He might well be, we can’t rely on him coming back to fitness and being the one, he my never reach that level due the injury. We are all hoping he will, but for now we need to think how to get the best out of what’s available.
