I appreciate it will be difficult but hard lines need to be drawn. If its not written into your contract good luck arguing for null and voiding your contract and as for refusing to play, more likely the player is found in breach of contract, so would be fined or not paid but not have their contract broken. Yes perhaps, without seeing how players contracts are written its difficult to comment. If they are linked to UEFA based competitions that said clubs have been ejected from then it may render the contract useless.

You down tools and refuse to play if it means you missing out on playing for your country, will certainly show the players who have pride and those who love the pay packet

Player contracts are not registered with a "euro" league so could it not be argued that the club have voided contracts not the players ?

May be wrong and perhaps someone like @Coppello might be able to say better, but I'd have thought the players contract is just with the club, the club then just then register the player with the league/FA as part of their squad. Even if the team withdrew from the league the player would still be contracted to the club no differently.
Numero Uno
No league with Arsenal and Tottenham in it is a super league anyway. They should call it the Mediocrity League.
Lrrr
If you believe this its Real Madrid who were the main instigators behind it, agreed to stop super league talks after the idea of expanded champions league and then just continued talks behind everyones backs. Madrid and Barcelona desperate for money with everything going on about repayments.

Lrrr
Reality is its probably just a negotiating tactic over the expansion of the champions league, previously reported the biggest clubs actually wanted a stake in the competition so they'd have more control over it and bigger financial side as well. Good that governing bodies are going in hard as it takes away the leverage they were trying to build.

spudski
Just goes to show that certain clubs have now got so big globally, that they don't even need or care about their local supporters. Imagine...and it's hard, if City were one of those Clubs. No consultation with fans as to whether they would want to support such an initiative. If it was that case, or one of the six mentioned...I'd walk away never to support again.

Those of us with memories that stretch back to the early 90s will find it a little ironic to read the FA getting so upset and self righteous about a planned breakaway league that will enable the top clubs to generate and keep more income for themselves. Quick response making it clear what action will be pursued should they attempt to go further down the ESL path, clearly stating clubs need authorisation from national body which it won't provide. Honestly expected no comments from the FA

Midlands Robin
The thing is, if they wanted to break away and form their own competition there's very little that can be done to stop them. As long as they didn't use any of the intellectual property belonging to any of the federations or to UEFA they are pretty much unstoppable. What would definitely be possible is prohibiting players from that league representing their country. I have a feeling that a European Super League is inevitable the only outstanding question would be who controls it. It would take a short while to adjust the leagues once these 6 clubs buggered off but it would be very much "as you were" after that.
INCRED
Well said Gary Neville on Sky sports - It’s a disgrace and the owners have no idea as to the history of the sport in this country The premier league & FA should penalise these clubs now and hit them hard

Think PSG's owners have a big stake in Bein sports who have just paid a load for the rights to the champions league and aren't German clubs fan owned? In that at all clubs fans hold a majority in voting rights?
