VAR in the Championship!!

Denbury Red

Recommended Posts

Henri Lansbury’s Red Card was overturned by a poor Ref and Lino decision - which had we been near the Top 6 could have been costly!

Tonight Darren Bond has sent off a Rotherham guy for an elbow, when replays clearly showed it was a clash of heads - this one could have a big impact on the relegation zone.

With so much money in football - even the Championship - whether we had full blown VAR - could the 4th official be looking at the same replays as we’ve seen on Sky!

For goodness sake - if an error can be corrected there and then, it should surely be used!

Clash of heads or not, Crooks took a huge risk, and clattered the other guy.  Reckless imho.

I’d be surprised if he hasn’t broken or fractured his jaw/cheekbone with that. As accidental as it may have been, it was dangerous.

Perhaps not VAR but how would people feel about a monitor pitchside that a referee can use at their discretion to double check things like the Lansbury red and the Rotherham red? Wouldn’t need stockly park or any lines etc just footage to be able to watch the play back to have another look at key decisions?

Would agree with that. Perhaps 2 appeals per team, per game. Would prevent it being overused and keep it less time consuming - similar to cricket

I’ve always said you can’t give teams appeals as they’ll use them tactically when teams are on counter attacks to stop play, football being a low scoring sport makes that too important. You can’t say till next break or open play as it can go 5 minutes before that happens and you’re making players play 5 minutes they may not need to or if players get injured before the play is stopped to check. It would just need to be a tool for referees at their discretion.

No thanks.

Use it to stop cheating. Nothing else.

You don’t necessarily need VAR for that.
Retrospective bans for blatant cheating would curtail it pretty quickly, without the spoiling effect VAR has on the spontaneity of the moment.

I mean to overturn penalties and the like during the game. Pointless doing later when the team at the wrong end of the decision has lost points.

Fair point, well made. Hadn't considered that.

I suppose it would only work for contentious goals and 'game stopping' decisions. Red cards, goals and penalty kicks that have already been awarded. As soon as the game continues the opportunity is missed.
