the1stknowle
This entire thread rests on the idea that Pearson's ability to turn things round and the level of confidence the chairman is seen to have in him (ie, just here until summer) aren't related. Who knows whether things will work out? For most managers long term, they don't. But he was a good appointment a few months ago so rather than assuming he is suddenly a bad manager or can't cope with this squad, give him the best possible backing he needs to succeed and then judge him. This is the right call and, even if he doesn't work out longer term, will still be the right call to have made given the current facts available. (Appointments aren't made retrospectively - we are all wise after the event). Im really happy with this and hope those with doubts emerging can give NP a clean slate from here. However anyone expecting Top 6 given what NP has said and on the basis that he has been appointed has lost the plot imo. What we have to avoid is simply another season where we are comfortably second best in 90% of matches, regardless of win, lose or draw and relegation obviously. Yes, if you listen to the interview there are some very interesting points. Firstly not to expect a massive overhaul of the playing squad in one window, he also makes the point that he needs to get more of those under contract available to him, he says “maximise what you already have” on 2 occasions. A lot about creating a winning mentality, more competitive squad & that 3 years is realistic to achieve, no bold claims about it being next season. Accepts results have been “terrible” & says we have not been strong enough physically. As usual, a thoughtful analysis.

downendcity
In the style of Kevin Keegan, “ I’d love it” if one or two players said the NP that they are delighted to hear of his permanent appointment and that now it has been confirmed, they are happy to discuss a new contract. Only for NP to tell them to **** off - nicely, of course!

He makes things very simple in a way that an inexperienced manager like Holden could never achieve. The players who want to be here can step up to the plate or they are clearing their locker out and going down the road looking for their next club on no doubt vastly reduced coin. The most important thing related to that are not only do they know Pearson will not do it but he clearly has the mandate from Owner and Chairman to do it. The players do not have anyone they can go scurrying to behind NP's back to claim how badly treated they have been.
