Premier League Two

David Moyes has said that a PL2 should be set up, including Celtic and Rangers. The PL should be reduced to 18 teams. There would be a place every season for the Scottish Champions in PL 2. I'm not sure about this, but at least it is not a closed shop. Anything that is a closed shop should be rejected.

Clown.

So Celtic and Rangers guaranteed to alternate then.

Has he learned nothing from this week?

Supposed to be blowing bubbles, not bullshit.

You have misunderstood him, Celtic and Rangers would be invited into PL2. There would still be promotion and relegation to PL1 and League One/Scottish Top Division. Therefore, if Celtic and Rangers were not relegated then they would be joined in the British League set up by the Scottish top flight winners the following season (at present most likely to be Hibernian or Aberdeen). Only Hearts would be big enough to survive in the top 36 of a British League other than the four Scottish teams already mentioned.

That sounds needlessly complicated, so what happens to the size of the Scottish division if a Scottish team does or doesn’t get relegated?

both Celtic and Rangers have full-on bigoted fans so why should we put up with this? If the Jocks want to join then allow them to apply at the bottom of the pyramid... otherwise lets wait for SNP indpenece when these clubs can then join the euro-planks.... either-way we dont need them...

Makes no sense whatever. What if all the Scottish clubs were mid table? PL2 would gradually fill up with them.

This.

If, and I doubt it will ever happen, they do want to merge the two countries leagues, then they need to start from the bottom.

Why should two or three clubs get entered in a league higher than say AFC Wimbledon, who have had to start right at the bottom and then earn their place at the table.

What I would say would be more acceptable, is if they wanted to change the League Cup (whatever it's called now) format, so that the Scottish teams can be drawn against the English at any level.

Prem clubs use it as a "reserve" competition mainly, and it would give it a bit of a shake up. At least then it may alleviate the Scottish football being crap comments to some extent.

I read it as Celtic and Rangers, plus Scottish Champions, as neither of those would be in Scottish league as well.

It's still an awful idea.

Won't happen. To make any change to the PL 14 clubs have to vote for it. 3 teams to be relegated as usual, plus 2 extra as the league is going to  be down to 18. To make room for the Old Firm in PL1 then 2 more spaces have to be found. Good luck finding 14 teams to vote for 7 to be relegated!

Also, why would the old firm deliberately relinquish CL football? OK, the money might be better if they played in England but let's be honest, they won't be getting anywhere near the CL spots. Doesn't the kudos of playing in Europe's (the world's) top competition mean anything to them?

Can't see the Scottish FA taking to kindly to it either, most clubs rely on the big paydays of playing the Old Firm. Without them the average attendance in the SPL will be about 3,000.

Just can't see it happening.

In theory yes, in reality only Rangers, Celtic, Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen could hope to compete in any 'top 36' UK league.

Yes, I'm guessing they would give an additional promotion place from their lower leagues in the event of no Scottish teams facing relegation.

Yes does seem a bit strange idea. Needs lot of clarification and working out. Or is just a rename of the championship with celtic and rangers  added? And where do teams get promoted to it and relegated too?

Our structure would stay the same except that there would be a reduction in the top two divisions to 18 teams. The Scottish champions would be promoted to PL2 each season along with two League one teams. Relegation would be to League One or Scottish clubs to their league.

There are proposals for a number of cross border leagues e.g. Netherlands and Belgium. Realistically smaller countries have to do that or accept their big clubs e.g. Celtic, Ajax etc will never win top European honours again.

Motherwell and Dundee Utd when they get their act back together. A sort of Scottish Burnley!

Arguably Dundee and Kilmarnock as well. But they'd be more Wycombe/Rotherham than Burnley. Only the big 5 are capable of decent gates - celtic 60k rangers 50k hearts 25k hibs 20k Aberdeen 20k for big matches in a UK structure.
