I am very happy with this but makes you wonder what Nige would have had to have done not to be offered the long term contract

Why? We don’t know what discussions have been held but we very much do know is that the club is in a complete and utter mess behind the scenes as well as on the pitch and so we are very very lucky to have a manager of NP’s quality ready and prepared to try and turn it around and take us forwards.  Let’s hope SL gives him the support he needs and asks for.  Could be a hell of a ride if so.

The ball was always in his court - if we had got relegated he wouldn't want to be here, If he did well we would have definitely wanted him, if he did OK ish as he has then we would still need someone that knew the clubs problems and knew how to fix them - basically he was fist choice since he originally took the job unless he got relegated in which case it wouldn't have worked for either party.

Bristol based guardian reporter.

Guardian reporter, podcast regular, specialises in EFL reporting. Also on the record as a Bristol City fan. When reporting about our club I'd say he as about as credible as they come.
