Kalas

I think he's the only player in our squad who's been part of a team promoted from the Championship so we def need to keep him. He's suffered this season trying to cover the mistakes of his colleagues and is mentally shot but I expect him to recover and with better players alongside next season his form will return to the way it was previously, although we need to give the captaincy to someone else.

He was out injured and didnt get back in the Fulham team much when he returned from what I rememberer.

Odoi and Ream played centre backs. They were absolutely class though to be fair

Well Nige said in the week he wants more equality in players pay, for players to be in the same area earning wise.

Kalas sold would free up wages and add some millions to the transfer kitty. So like Nige also was talking about in midweek - selling players can be a positive in allowing you to strengthen. Not the exact words, but something like that!

From a starting point as where we are now , you’d love to bring someone in of Kalas quality. However at £8m signing and reportedly on £22k per week , he’s not earning his coin. He’s a good player yes but he’s not a leader or organiser of a back 4 you’d want for that money . He needs a leader alongside him. With better financial prudence , you might be able to bring two players in on those wages combined for the same quality . Trouble is , who would match his wages , plus we’d take a massive hit on his transfer fee

He also played 43 games for Boro when they were promoted in 15/16

I didnt know he was on 22k. Thought it would be more than that.

Well yeah it might not be that easy to sell him. Maybe Fulham if they were to sell a centre back and need a new one.

He was definitely training with the match day squad Thursday and finished the session..

He doesn't seem the confrontational type to me.

"two footing Wells and ranting at him", "nose to nose with NP" - just seems out of character.

Time will tell.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nige just doesn’t rate him. He is massively overrated by some on here.

Odd then, how he did well at other sides at this level and is age range wise approaching peak years for his position.

2 promotions, 2 playoffs- hell first year here he was good, CB in a reasonable International side.

Maybe just maybe he has regressed here as we have often seen.

Pearson confirmed he was left out today, not rested.

He was really poor last week (not unique in that) & so in truth I wasn’t surprised.

I thought NP said the opposite - he needed a rest ?

He was upset and emotional in that interview a few months back indicating that the pressure might have been getting to him. We see him as an alpha male type warrior and therefore are less inclined to see him being sensitive to criticism. Gregors questioning clearly riled him recently and the social media criticism from fans has been fairly intense lately.

It may be that be something has happened behind the scenes as a result or maybe not but if it had then I would expect NP to protect him as a duty of care if he saw it as a health related issue. It may be nothing but it’s easy to forget the pressure that footballers can face these days.

Rumoured to be , I don’t know for sure . Baker was our highest earner until he came in

So, currently valued in the accounts at £4m.

Anything less than that goes in as a loss in the accounts for FFP purposes.

Agreed definitely not worth 8 million alot like him and rate him I'm not just not a fan.. Been very disappointing you can see why he was sent out alot on loan at Chelsea over a long period of time.

They did it to make money, plus its very hard to get in the Chelsea squad but yes i get your point. He does have a lot of mistakes in him especially recently (plus the shenanigens I've heard) A really good defender on his day but Its probably best he moved on so we can rebuild in the summer.

I don’t know how accurate this is but if Taylor Moore is really on £7,500 per week then the game is gone. He’s not even a remotely average player at Championship level.

I can’t see that being his current amount, didn’t he take a massive cut to stay here? Could see it being the amount he was on when he signed being England u20 and had been captain, coming from a Ligue 1 team etc

Nige was a defender himself so very well placed to assess the qualities of our defenders.

To me Kalas is a bang average Championship CB and nothing more, maybe Nige thinks the same.

If that is true ("IF"), surely it sounds like exactly the sort of passion that so many have been crying out for? 🤣

Finally cancelled for not taking the knee by the woke left I heard, and the crime of derailing the match day thread as a result every week.

Wow, you're well balanced by the chip on each shoulder. You know what "woke" means, don't you? Not standing for racism, sexism, etc...so, by definition, being "anti-woke" means you're fine with both...

He did halve his wages to secure an extra year, but he’s since signed a new 3+1 year deal (2nd Oct).  At the time he was playing regularly, and playing ok.

Where did Lansbury get promoted?

If we're judging by getting the medal based on appearances over the course of the season.

I dont count Villa. Season they went up, he played three (yes, 3) games. And was routinely shunted to train with the U23s due to attitude under Smith.

Baker was relegated with Villa. Never promoted however.

Palmer, at Hudds, correct.

Simpson - Twice promoted with Newcastle and QPR.

Mapps, unless I'm mistaken, has been relegated twice from PL, but never promoted when actually in a squad.

Sessognon scrapes it with 14 appearances in 19-20. No technically about it.

In terms of players experiencing, or being apart of a team being promoted at any level, it's Bentley (Southend, L2), Kalas (Middlesbrough, CH, Fulham, CH), Hunt (Huddersfield, L1), Wells (Bradford, L2, Huddersfield, CH), Martin (Norwich, CH), Walsh (Coventry, L1), Watkins (Barnsley, L1), Rowe (Stockport, L2, Peterboro, L1), and I believe that's it.

So in summary, in terms of experience of promotion from this level, it's Palmer, Kalas, Wells, Martin.
