The bloke was a clueless bafoon as a manager totally out of his depth and served no purpose to us

I take it you either didn't like him, or liked John Ward more. Either way, the facts have him improving the defensive side of a John Ward team that let in 2 goals a game. But obviously he's a buffoon, regardless of his standing in the football world and the statement made by Shaun Taylor to the contrary.

You have your opinion and I respect it.

Fair amount of criticism on here for my interview skills on this one and it is justified  - must try harder!

🙄

At least it's constructive, no bad thing.

You must take credit for doing this in the first place, so well done that man.

I enjoyed the interview. Maybe let JW speak a bit more and not skim over some answers of his, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Lets face it, it's insight we wouldn't have had either way and I really enjoyed the Danny Wilson interview, much appreciated Headhunter, OSIB and 3 Peaps lads. Good work I say 👍

Just speak less! 😂😂😂😂

All jokes aside, you’re obviously experienced in this field but I think sometimes now managers are “out of the game” and in this format they’re maybe a bit more relaxed to give more insights so asking an open question, and then letting them go off on a tangent might give you/us more than you bargained for!

the “a cider with” series are the perfect sweet spot IMO for the guest just being prodded into a subject and let to go

Thanks for the efforts tho- some great content and looking forward to hearing more down the line!

We’re spoilt with the great content we have from 3P’s, Osib and foreverbcfc

Highlight of the season, was crewe at home.

Grady had made some strange comments pre match i recall.

He said crewe were a bigger club than us, he was asked how do you work that out then?

Oh because we had 2456, for the cup game, and they had 2300, we had played them in the coco cola cup that season.

What a clownish thing to say.

JW - thoroughly approachable and decent bloke.

Haven't heard the podcast but if you didn’t ask him about the ‘Priestfield 8’ incident you missed a trick.

97 season City started poorly culminating in as unprofessional, abject and spineless a performance as imaginable when getting played off the park at Priestfield. Some of us in the London Branch had had enough.

Post the final whistle and in no rush to get home we nipped in for a quick reviver before heading straight back to the players entrance to provide a ‘personal escort’ to the awaiting team bus. Enough was enough & we weren’t for holding back.

As one by one the players skulked onto the bus & were left in no doubt as to what we thought of their attitude, JW brought up the rear, stopped to engage us & the spent the best part of an HOUR listening to our valid and constructive criticism (much of which he fully accepted.) When the likes of Torpey & Cramb periodically emerged from the coach telling him to ‘leave it’ as they ‘want to get home’ he told them in no uncertain terms to either ‘go back and sit down’ else ‘come out here, shut up & listen to what the fans have to say’. He made them wait the considerable time until we had finished.

Now we’ll never know for sure whether JW used that experience when managing the players in the weeks thereafter, but we reckon he did and the results, well they’re there for all to see.

Damascene transformation.

Agree with that. A very irritating interviewing style. Just ask the question and be quiet. If we’ve tuned in it’s because we want to hear John Ward.

Was going to comment along those lines,,, the number of times ward is talked over, i lost count.... its like the interviewer is just trying to recount stats to impress everyone.

Firstly thank you the the interview I appreciate the effort that goes into podcasts.

It was great to hear from Wardy it’s just a shame we didn’t hear more than 30 minutes from him in an hour and half interview!

The flow of the interview was awful with the frequent monologues from the interviewer with multiple questions at once followed by frequent interruptions of Ward’s responses was painful to listen to.

I could hear sighs of exasperation from him a couple of times and of course he’s too much of a gent to say “let me finish” although did give a hint at the end of one extended question and said “oooo, that was a long question”.

A good example of this was when it got the subject of him leaving City. For I think the first time we started to hear his side of the story and rather than pause and let him speak and open up he was downed out with interruptions and a change of subject.

I don’t take away my appreciation but it could’ve been so much better and to be honest more like the ‘Cider with’ interviews on OSIB.

Erm, he wasn't sacked lads. We wanted to bring in a Director of Football, literally the same as everyone is expecting us to do now with Nigel Pearson, and Ward was having none of it.

Not saying we were right to go down this path or that soon into that season, but in footballing terms we would have been ahead of the curve - Ward disagreed, which is fair enough.

He says in the interview he was though and found out in the media.

Just finished listening to this. One thing that I found very odd - @headhunter you list Testimitanu alongside Akinbiyi, Thorpe, Anderson and Watts among the City signings 'ahead' of that season and then later again with great preamble highlight him to JW specifically in a question about foreign signings.

JW hesitates in response, then talks rather vaguely about scouting foreign players. Here's the thing, am I going mad or wasn't Ivan signed at Xmas by Benny!? I'm fairly certain he was and made his debut on Boxing Day at Watford (I was there). So was JW being polite and going along with the premise?

I have this horrible vision of an elderly John Ward wondering why he's forgotten this but not wanting to say anything. Please put me out of my misery and tell me it's something he corrected off air? Or have I got my history mixed up? Also as @One Teamsays, interesting how he describes his leaving.

Testimitanu was definitely a Benny signing, as was Sebok.
