My favourite ever interview from my favourite manager.

It’s criminal that he isn’t acknowledged somewhere within Ashton Gate. This is just before my time as a City fan, but every City fan owes TC a huge debt of gratitude for how hard he worked picking the club up at its lowest ebb.

Spot on . He managed the club, was Director, scouted players, drove the minibus, sold tickets and was a very useful player.

In my humble opinion he is every bit as important as the 8. It would be great if the Club could acknowledge just how big a part he played in the rebuild of whole Club.

What a brilliant day, won money as well for time of 1st Goal, 44mins we travelled up on a double decker bus, not so good going home, think it would do no more that about 50mph, seemed like every coach and car had Red & White scarves in the windows

I remembered TC’s emotion in that interview, but what I find remarkable is that, even in that moment of success, TC was talking about how it was important that Bristol City were still playing at Ashton Gate in 50 years’ time (not long to go now Terry!). He was also talking about the need to acquire a training ground. That’s why TC was so important - he was laying the foundations for the long term future of the club back then with none of the short termism you sometimes see from managers.

Anybody else go up in a city dart bus?

Winkerstoke rd bus depot must have hired out 200 of them!

My one downer that day, my dad had just bought me a half yellow half red city hat.

Came out the stadium, some bolton fan, put a bolton hat on my head and took mine.

Was a tradition, but i werent happy about it.

It was the day after I had left school and we went up on a Turners coach which my mates Dad was driving. I had been to Wembley to watch England Schoolboys but this was completely different with all the cars and coaches travelling up the M4. It was the era of the banner so there were lots of bedsheets with 'amusing' comments on them. Can't remember too much about the game apart from the result and the the scorers. When we got back we went to the Man In Space pub in Stockwood.

Terry Cooper is a legend, I remember being the mascot against Northampton Town it would of been 1983 I was 9 years old. He introduced me to the players etc, had a game of football tennis over old wooden benches with Tom Ritchie then out to the pitch before kick-off. Just as the game was to begin he said "Our you going back to the Williams stand with your grandad or do you want to stay on the bench". If memories recall I stayed on the bench with TC and the subs. We lost 3-1 but that memory will stay with me forever. You would never get that now TC didn't need a Ceo, he did it himself.

3 of us hitch hiked up to Chester.

One got picked up by a doctor in a flash car, he was waving at us laughing as he was driven off, the other 2 of us thought we weren't going to make it.

Half an hour later we got picked up by a 'cider bus' from Southmead, with barrels in the back, and a really friendly lot who were very happy for us to share it.

Our mate was dropped off somewhere on the outskirts of Chester, didn't know where the hell he was, and eventually reached the ground near the end of the first half.

We were in the pub 2 hours before KO!

Our friend didn't believe us about our fortuitous pick- up and the limitless free cider- until they agreed to fit him in for the trip back, that is.

Fantastic day, one of my all time favourites following City.

Absolutely.
We got the train, Police basically turned it into a special so just a short stop at Crewe. Got to Chester and sussed the Police were coming in. Went into the toilets 5 or 6 of us in a cubical , but we had the sense to stand on the bowl so the OB only saw one set of feet ? Some weren't so lucky.
The rest got an escort to the ground where I don't there was a pub for miles. We met a load of City in the centre, it was so packed some lads took a table and chairs into the middle of the road and carried on drinking.
Such a great day, of an attendance of 4k there were 3,000 City. It will take some beating.

I don't tend to post much...being more of a reader than a writer but have to admit that seeing TC there reminds me of our heritage. I'm not ashamed to say that tears were flowing listening to how much it meant to the guy after all he'd put in and his natural affinity for us.

I would dearly love this guy to be commemorated somehow at the Gate. My favourite manager of all time.

The South Stand should be named the Terry Cooper Stand
