He's clearly an important part of their set up, starting most games, but every time I've watched Hungary (and I saw the friendly tonight) his role seems to be one of off the ball containment rather than on the ball playmaker. He's very visible in midfield and he runs around a lot constantly making himself available to receive the ball but for a team who wants to be a possession based side he often seems by-passed for other options. Mostly he is for team exactly what You wrote but also he is the deep lying playmaker as well as he sees what's going on the whole pitch as well. He runs a lot to those slots where he's needed and keeps the game ticking. Of course against the 3 bigs at th Euros his break-up play will be more important as we will defend and counter attack instead of possession based play.
