John McGreal  ex Colchester Utd  announced as manager . Relegated to League 2 , only  9 players under contract and apparently only one whose contract doesn’t expire in 2022.

Didn’t something like this happen ages ago when di canio took over and he signed lots of players and they bounced straight back up? Will be a big ask this time though

John McGreal obviously needs the money.............................

The football world is awash with unemployed football managers and coaches. They all need the money

That's an advantage.  Means they have limited financial obligations and that they can employ players on wages they can afford.

I was trying to remember who our manager was off the top of my head when they knocked us out the league cup at Ashton gate. I’m guessing it was Sod and I’m sure it was the year they got promoted under di canio but can’t remember

The only decent and memorable players in that 2011 line up were Macca, Gerks and and Skuse.

That really was a dire team, wasn't it?  Though I'd add Pitman to the above list.

Kilkenny still plying his trade...standing in the middle of the park in the A League with Perth Glory, giving it his very best pointing.

Yeah - may take a while to rebuild and they may need to cut their cloth according to their means but it's not necessarily a bad thing for a relegated club to be able to start again. I think we'd have been in a stronger position in League One in 2013/14 if we'd not had players like Fontaine, Pearson and Marvin Elliott on Championship level wages. It's no coincidence at all that we had to wait until they left to start to really get quality in under Cotts.

Decent appointment, to be fair

Quite how Power is still in charge there is beyond comprehension. One of my best mates is Swindon, every time we go for a pint there's a new twist in the story. He is genuinely worried he's not going to have a club to support in a year or two

Bit of luck they go down again. Horrible place and a horrible club. Other than that I wish them well ?

Swindon certainly isn't easy on the eye that's for sure.
I've lived in Swindon for the past 24 years. The main town centre was a concrete faceless sprawl when I arrived, but the nightlife around Fleet Street - the 'bottom of town' was good, but it's got steadily worse - most of the original bars and pubs have gone as the High Street deteriorated over the years. The appearance of the town has got worse, mainly (I believe) due to the council planners, who seem to be intent on destroying the very few remaining 'nice' architecture examples (Mechanics Institute and the Corn Exchange aka the Locarno) by their rigid restrictions on developing those sites. @Shaun Taylormight back me up on this?? The 'bottom of town' is now more like the 'Town's bottom' if you get my drift!!!
I actually live in Old Town (on top of the hill) which is quite nice to be fair - quite a few bars and restaurants and an old Victorian park with a bandstand, but you would only go to Old Town if you were deliberately visiting it - you wouldn't naturally pass through it coming from the M4 or the train station on your way to the County Ground - which is right next to the Red Light district, so not surprising it doesn't inspire many positive comments!!

As for the football club, they shot themselves in the foot years ago, when Honda wanted to sponsor them. Honda wanted their name to be all over the club and were willing to provide considerable funding, but they wanted to part-own the club and the board at the time were having none of it.

I'm not sure what the current crisis is exactly, but I know that Power is under investigation and everyone here hates him.

I personally miss playing them - it was the only City game I could actually WALK to!!!!!!!

I should add, whilst Swindon isn’t great architecturally, it is a VERY convenient staging place for going onwards elsewhere in the country - north, south, east and west are all easy to get to from here.
It’s also the birthplace of the NHS, which is certainly poignant at this current time!!

How do you find being a city fan living in Swindon just out of interest?

There's definitely a fair few because when escorted from the pub outside the trainstation to the ground there's always a couple of windows displaying City shirts as we walk by.

I also remember after the game we lost 1-0 in our promotion season, people who lived local were trying to get out of the escort back and were denied.

Theres not even a decent chip shop in swindon.

Let alone anything of intrest on the walk to the ground.

York Road chippie used to be the best ever but they’ve changed hands now. Big piece of fish (proper cod) with great chips.
I’ve been told it’s crap now but not tried it recently - trying to lose weight so avoiding fish & chips - the most calorific takeaway there is!!!!!
