Ironically, I recall Johnson and Holden both stating that we were working through pre season with an aim of being the fittest squad in the league come August.....??

To be fair we did look pretty good last August. About the only time we did last season. As for Johnson, could never sustain anything over a period of time unless it was losing games. Usually fell away in the second half of the season.

True, we did look alright in August. However, clearly our squad was way off the standard in terms of fitness, physicality, and robustness for a Championship season (as Pearson has noted).

IMO that's a massive indictment of the work that Holden and co did pre-season.

It`s more about rest and recovery IMO. The players were fit and raring to go in August but we didn`t manage the schedule properly to avoid flogging them when they needed rest. As a result, hamstrings get pulled and the player is out for weeks/months.

TBF to Holden, COVID had already disrupted his end of season spell. The down time was short and they couldn't train as a team for a lot of the time. Let's not forget, the completely useless backroom staff that has now scuttled off to Ipswich etc, were all he had to work with.
That said there was still a lot lacking and by the time Nige came in it was more obvious.

Not saying that Holden doesn't deserve some blame, but that whole culture was in place and set by Johnson and the rest. So in that much Holden was complicit. Hopefully the new backroom staff will shake things up and put us back somewhere near where we should be.

Possibly JD but understandable if so. Noticed he started a bleep test video With Edwards but wasn’t in another with Edwards on his own. That being said, the bleep test isn’t be all end all

I thought that video showed Dasilva actually probably being one who passed, while the two of them were shown doing the yo-yo test you could see others sat down already implying Jay had made it further than most in that group, looked like he was second only to Edwards.

Yepp, that's very fair and accurate. Nevertheless, the blame falls on the same people.....Holden + coaches, strength and conditioning team, physio etc (and ultimately Ashton for employing them)

True, COVID didn't help, though 91 other English teams seemed to deal with it better than we did! Agree - as above, ultimately the blame lies with those who employed incompetent staff (i.e Mark Ashton).

Given how bad it was last season, I'm hoping that we'll see a notable improvement in performances simply as a result of the new medical/fitness staff

Plus a coach with experience, a coach with a focus and game plan. Just hope we can get a few players in soon.
