Blazing Saddles at 10:10 on BBC4.

Absolute classic. Bit near the mark for some on here though I'd imagine ?

I remember seeing it in the cinema !!

At the time, there were often two films shown during the same evening.

I can't for the life of me recall the name of the first film, but do remember it was a rather pathetic 'blue, pornographic' film.

The porno film was only slightly less amusing than Blazing Saddles.

I bet it had either Julie Ege or Samantha Eggar in it?

Saw it as a double bill with Monty Python & The Holy Grail...late 70s.

For me it was a double bill with Young Frankenstein (it's Fronk N Steen), another great Mel Brooks film.

The Waco Kid joke about shooting left handed, makes me cry with laughter every time, as does the roadcrew, singing I Get a Kick Out Of You, when asked to sing a good old fashioned ........ work song. :)

I genuinely assumed it would never be shown on mainstream TV again, I am pleased to be wrong, it's a great example of using racist tropes and language to ridicule the perpetrators of it.

In a nutshell. Mel Brooks managed to ridicule most of the racist stereotypes in use in America back then in one ninety minute movie and made it bloody funny to boot. As with Fawlty Towers and Till Death Us Do Part we were meant to laugh at them and not with them.
