Bristol City v Celtic

Recommended Posts

Although we haven't looked too threatening in the final third, our defence and centre midfield looks more assertive.

Matty James seems to be doing a good job of keeping the Celtic midfielders at bay at the edge of the 18 yard box.

One concern of mine is Kasey Palmer playing out wide. He often looks to pass the ball instead of drive forward with it. His choice of pass often doesn't have the desired effect of moving us up the pitch. I would like to see him play behind Weimann and try to pick out some of his runs behind the defence.

I'm excited to see Owura Edwards, as I feel he could put himself into contention for a starting place if he has an effect on this game when he comes on.

Just talking about what I saw even if it sounds harsh from Celtic having 2 extra friendlies before this and us obviously not full strength.

Celtic dominated first half. But we looked pretty solid defensively. Very strong looking against a smaller Celtic side.

O'Leary, Atkinson, Baker, James and Weimann impressed me.

I think most of the others have been poor.

442 with Weimann alongside Martin I am not so sure is the way forward. Not just because of that half but just not sure it will work.

I was thinking Weimann would play a bit deeper. Celtic having that extra man in midfield and we can't put any moves together.

But its only a friendly. Might all mean nothing.

I think if Nige wants to go 442 then Wells would work much better alongside Weimann. Obviously he isn't available for this game.

Celtic obviously more match fit, they have to be with a Euro match next week, so obviously they will be a couple or three games ahead of us in terms of match fitness and it showed.

Fitness wise, a very good work out.

I thought King was anonymous and James not too far behind.

Palmer put in a very good shift but couldn't get on the ball, that bad tackle - NP would have liked that, he chased the guy back and put in a (bad) tackle.

The only downside from that half was Sam Pearson imo. He genuinely looked out of his depth - but, as I say, first game of the season and all that. But he's got some chasing to do now.

Celtic - they should have been out of sight with all the possession and forward play, but they had nothing up front, just tippy tappy shite around the box. Have a friggin shot ffs.

Baker and Atkinson looking solid, James starting to come into it but the standout for me has been Andy King. He's everywhere, looks big and always finds a pass.

And I thought he was anonymous ;)

All about opinions.

Celtic fans are delusional on Twitter, talking as if we’re a pub side when this our first pre season fixture and they have a champions league match on Tuesday…

They came to that conclusion having watched us last season.

Personally I think that based on last season that was a little unfair on pub teams!

"Like the other friendlies Bristol City seem to think it’s a cup final."

Talk about deluded

We would never get to a cup final playing like this!

Seriously though I don't see anything in this that's making me think we're playing this like a cup final, we have a lot of our younger players playing, do they think resolute defending is how you play a cup final?

No more delusional than fans on here expecting us to pass the ball round like Real Madrid this evening. Same lack of awareness??

Point of order . It is not first game of the season . It is a training exercise . First game of the season is Blackpool .
