Bristol R*vers dustbin thread

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "We're pleased that the Court has robustly dismissed Bristol Rover's appeal and ruled that the conditional contract lawfully ended in November 2014.

"We have been trading in Bristol for over 45 years and will continue to work with the local community via our existing stores which are extremely popular with customers (apart from those of a horse-punching persuasion.)"

Came to OTIB first for the stadium appeal update, so thanks guys.

Just a quick one though:

Rovers have said that the outcome of their court case with Sainsbury's is "no longer relevant"

I just drove past the UWE site and the road was gridlocked with all the diggers getting to work on the new stadium .... oh, wait a minute, it could just have been tumbleweed...

Remember that time you all went to Cheltenham to view your temporary home....or when you were told that there was a watertight contract?

Yeah, this is the same.

That's why Rovers statement this morning stated

“ We will be looking closely at the Judgement   to assess its implications for the club and its future   and will make a further statement in due course”

Sounds pretty relevant to me

Bristol Rovers have suffered a major blow to their plans to build a new £30 million stadium.

This morning they lost a High Court appeal to prevent Sainsbury's pulling out of a deal to buy their existing stadium.

The on-off saga has been raging since February 2014, after Sainsbury's agreed to buy the Memorial Stadium so they could build a new superstore - only to terminate the deal a few weeks later.

Bristol Rovers claimed that contracts already signed by the supermarket meant that the deal was legally binding. But today, three judges sided with Sainsbury's saying it was within their rights to terminate the deal.

The club now faces huge legal fees as well as the loss of a multi-million pound sale, which would go some way to funding the planned stadium in Stoke Gifford.

The only comfort for Bristol Rovers fans is the new billionaire owner from Jordan, who has promised the new stadium will be built.

Sainsbury's have been trading in Bristol for 45 years, Rovers have been treading water for over 100 years in Bristol (and various other locations)

Nothing to see here. As you were

Yeah, completely the same... same owner, same chairman, same ex-chief executive of Wembley on board.

Obviously with those slight twists. But yeah, this is the same.

That really is a cracking goal, just a shame it was scored against us when it was.

I hope rovers enjoy their Chamionship Play-Off Final as much as we did......
