Ferguson opposed Ashton Vale but supported the refurbishment of Ashton Gate.

In hindsight he was right & probably understood that under planning law we were never going to get AV done.

Maybe getting my facts muddled (nowt new there), but wasn't the chair of the hearings severely anti-stadium / Pro Dogshit Green? especially after the previous person nominated was pro-stadium but felt he couldn't take the chair as he was in favour?

Yep, it was a murky business all round.

Probably the last major example of where this lobby group were able to stop development, but even there Steve Lansdown has still managed to use the sale of half of that land for housing to fund the new sporting quarter.

Can’t remember seeing this anywhere but the Sports Bar has now been rebranded after our new deal with George Ferguson’s Bristol Beer Factory, who are literally just at the end of Ashton Rd

I was today years old when I found out that George Ferguson was a co-founder of Bristol Beer Factory. Hoping the bar inside is still unchanged; or changed for the better (if possible)

Prices of a pint are over £5 now in the ground.

Went down last Saturday and a round of 2 golds and a Guinness was £15.70 iirc.

Season ticket would get you 10% off though.

Those prices don't do much to help the parking situation. If 4 pints is over 20 quid, might as well drive.

& empty the rest of the time

I’ve got no idea about the economics of it but with City and Bears home league games plus cups/playoffs and a moderate amount of midweek trade (Darts, pool, crib nights etc) could it not be viable? I’m sure @Rob BS3 could enlighten us into the inside pain of running a boozer like the Sun, when on the face of it the Robins and the Coopers and the Miners seem to be doing ok still?

Could anyone tell me what has happened to BS3 (The Rising Sun, on Ashton Rd)?

I was disappointed to see it was closed and all boarded up on Saturday.

Pre-COVID we’d go in there post match for a few pints.

COYR.

In all seriousness, no idea. Other than it's available to rent or lease on a number of pub opportunity websites.

Surely if you’re someone looking to take over a pub or he rising sun is perfect . It’s normally rammed inside and out on a Saturday

Having lived 3 doors down from Wedlock’s for 20 years I would agree the football is a good earner for 9 months of the year. To make money during the week and the summer you need things like pool teams, darts teams and possibly a football team.

When I was local there was darts 3 nights of the week and a regular Friday meeting by a group called the RAOB. It was still quiet during the day.

Personally I went in there every Friday night with mates, all home games and when I got off the CATS coach after an away game. My mum and dad each played for a darts team.

Yeah totally, I remember years ago in the Luckwell there'd be Men's Darts on a Monday, Crib on a Tuesday, Pool on Wednesday, Ladie's darts on a Thursday (always with a decent raffle too) and then a good old fashioned Meat Raffle on a Sunday. That kept the till ticking over. Also a singer in on a Saturday night too.
