Barely half time and the “who shall we have a go at this week” threads have started.

If you can’t see that right back is a massive problem then god help you. This isn’t a “let’s all pick on Vyner” thread, more of a “How the hell is Vyner our best option at RB!”

We still need to sign 3 more players imo. How we’ve allowed to go in to a season with this squad is ridiculous.

To be fair he wasn't anywhere near close enough and allowed a simple cross.

I like him but that was poor for a park footballer let alone a professional.

I didn’t say I can’t see there a problems in more than one position. I just don’t see that threads slagging off individuals when we’re still only half way through the game will help. I prefer to support and hope that he plays a blinder second half.

I doubt Vyner will come on here and check the threads at half time, we can’t help or have any impact from home sitting on a forum.

Don’t think he’s capable of having a blinder. League 1 player at best.

He gets a bit of a pass on here as he’s an academy product but I don’t think he’s a natural RB at all. Too cumbersome and not technical enough.

I’ve long been of the opinion that Vyner’s not good enough for this level, pure and simple. Not at CB, not at RB, not at DM. There’s enough evidence to back that up.

Like Moore, he’s too soft and he’s no longer a youngster. Because Vyner’s one of our own, some people seem blind to his costly mistakes and the fact is he doesn’t learn from them.

He needs minutes there! Vyner has always grown into the roles he has been asked. We have no money for positions we desperately need. Reckon he’ll be rock solid by time October comes around

I think he can do a decent job for us & you are absolutely right, unless we move on the likes of Nagy money is extremely tight & we won’t be spending any on a RB.

Zak is having to adapt to a new position but we don’t have the benefit of time & having got the hook today it will be interesting to see who lines up at RB v Reading.

I suggested in the summer that if after the transfer window we find ourselves with decent centre backs then it might be that Kalas plays right back, considering he has played there plenty of times in his career.

It shows how much Pearson didnt like Vyner's performance that he brought him off when 2-1 down and chasing a goal, and not bringing on Simpson suggests maybe he's not even that keen on him anymore!

So we could have a bit of a problem in that position. We have seen at times in the past Vyner can really struggle one on one, sometimes it looks far too easy to get past him.

Vyner was brought off today after it looked like he was at fault for losing a header at the far post from a deep free kick. For someone who is 6 foot 2 he is pretty weak in the air. Boro are big and strong of course, so it won't be quite like that every game. But every team has their big, strong players to defend against on set pieces.

I actually prefer Vyner in midfield. But obviously no reason to use him there now with the options we have. It is only one game but it is things we have seen before.

If Kalas is still here for our next game then it wouldn't surprise me if Nige goes with him at right back.

Full back is a problem position and I think we've got no choice but to play Kalas at RB and Pring LB to stop teams targeting us on the back post and flanks.

I actually really like Vyner and DaSilva but if it ain't working...

I said early in the summer when it looked like our right backs would be Simpson and Vyner that Kalas might end up being our best option at right back. Yes Kalas is a centre back, but if we are happy with Atkinson and Baker then why not use Kalas right back who is probably the most reliable option.

Of course we could just go 352, but then we don't have a proper right wing back. And I don't want to see a change in system. Improve on how we are trying to play now.

Yeah we don't have wing backs so better off going with a narrow back 4 like LJ used to with Wright and Maggers.

He should have been sold years ago - for Pearson to buy Simpson as a right back despite knowing we needded quality there is damning.

Pendantry perhaps, but he was a freebie and I suspect on a lowish wage, been there done it and useful to have around the younger players and a general steadying influence. Nothing to lose on a one year deal, if is does not work then he'll be released and we'll move on. We just need a Frankenstein monster of Simpson's footballing brain and Vyner's pace....

I think he gets a bit of a pass because he is actually a very good footballer. Which is not to say I think right back is where I would pick him.

His issue at the moment is he is what I would call a 5 a side player. By that I mean that, were I to pick 5 players to represent City in a five a side team, he’d be a definite pick as he can defend a bit, play a bit and cover a lot of roles. But I don’t feel there is a position where I feel he currently excels.

Personally I’d rather see work done developing him as a midfielder as I think that is where, with training, he would ultimately work best.

But, whatever position he ultimately plays, he is going to need time to bed in and adjust and I think he has suffered from being played all over the place.

At the moment, I think he gets a lot of blame for him not being a specialist due to a lot of managers using him different ways. I am not sold on him as a right back but I don’t like a player being written off due to the fact that he has not been given a chance to focus on a position.
