swanker
Can remember someone saying that if the ball ever struck the woodwork he’d be on the end of the rebound. Incredible instinct, something you can’t teach.

All very well, but when he wasn't doing that, what did he bring to the team? Did he, for instance, head opposition corners away at the near post? Lanterne Rouge
That West Germany side was something else. Muller, Seeler, Beckenbauer, Maier, Vogts, Haller and the rest. Just a machine that you couldn`t stop.
candygram for mongo
He made me cry on my birthday when West Germany beat England in 1970 World Cup Also, he had massive thighs.

Southend Blue
I don't remember him as a player and wish I were a little older to have seen him in action but aware what an extraordinary player he was. Were a bit shocked getting the news earlier, was he ill ? Can you imagine how much money a player like that would command in today's market, you can't quite put a price on it. If Manchester City can pay £100,000,000 for a midfielder then I'd say Muller in his prime would far eclipse that. The German equivalent of Jimmy Greaves but arguably better, always in the right place at the right time and could take chances from basically nothing. Goalscoring legend supreme, the game is poorer today for his passing. RIP
ScottishRed
Legend is a word too freely used regarding players. That is not the case here. RIP Gerd.
ashton_fan
I didn't like him much when he took England apart in the 1970 World Cup QF in Mexico, he had an eye for goal though.

Red_Alligator
He was a great striker. Scored some fantastic goals at domestic and international level - and a lot of them too! RIP Herr Muller.

1team
He invented the hole diving thing. He was the first footballer I ever saw "seeking an advantage" from situations. That aside probably the greatest finisher in my lifetime which includes Pele and Messi.

Merrick's Marvels
Idolising the Dutch teams of the 70s meant Gerd Muller wasn't especially popular in our household but you have to doff your cap to his goal-scoring stats which are staggering. steveybadger
Messi’s best season: 91 goals in 69 games = 1.31 per game. Muller’s best: 85 in 60 = 1.41. #That good. RIP.
