Professional footballers are moulded from an early age to say the right thing, do the right thing, eat the right thing, drink the right thing, and do all these things at the right time - so many end up being such finely-tuned athletes that they prioritise their fitness and profession over aesthetics and swagger. And that means they lose sight of the possibility that the way they play football could be really cool. But not Tyreeq Bakinson, Bristol City's young midfielder. It's effortless. He lulls opponents into a false sense of security by appearing gangly and awkward but in fact he's blessed with a basketballer's agility and frame, with the balance and poise of a gymnast. He doesn't so much play football as grace it with his presence, gliding about the pitch like a figure skater. He has all the attributes to make it huge in the game, and off the pitch carries himself like a young man in control of his destiny. Bakinson is a funny one as clearly splits opinion as clearly you’re either in the “outstanding prospect” or”not good enough” camp. Certainly has ability on the ball but personally have major doubts about his mobility and work rate so guess I’m in the latter. Hope I’m wrong. Loads of them aren’t even Bristolians, plus there is the usual Post false equivalence (we’ve included a City fan so now need to include 3 gas), it’s just utter meaningless bollocks. A fourth division goalkeeper, FFS. John Shaw was way cooler & by the way, for their information Han Noah Massengo is cool, Tyreeq (I stand around for 5 minutes admiring a decent pass) Bakinson is certainly not.
