One of the greatest achievements by a British sportsperson ever.

From qualifier to winning a Slam in such a short space of time, and not losing a set or even going to a tie break, is truly remarkable.

It's the kind of story that if it was written for a film it would get thrown out for being too unrealistic.

As a father of daughters, what an inspiration she is ?

It’s also incredibly un-British!

I'm struggling to think of anything, in the modern era at least. Greece winning the Euros? Even that doesn't really compare.

It's like a Conference team winning the FA Cup.

Classy lady, incredible stuff.  Looks like she is going to be a proper British winner rather than the plucky loser we herald all the time.

Lets wait for the gutter press and Piers Morgan get stuck into her when she fails to win the next title.  I real hope the British public get behind her.

Both these ladies have kept me entertained tonight, the pace an power of the tennis on show was great  something you tend to see generally when the Williams Sisters are on court.  These two could dominate for the next decade,

Well said mate ?

Morgan didn't  miss an opportunity at Wimbledon did he? Hope he's eating humble pie tonight. And supports her in the future instead of kicking her.

I've run out of superlatives.

well having retired with breathing difficulties at Wimbledon she is undefeated in 2 slams, where as Morgan was defeated by a HTV weather presenter, no contest really

Leicester winning the PL springs to mind of course, but I think this is greater still. Certainly in an individual sport, I can’t think of anything that comes close.

Yeah Leicester winning was a shock, but they were still in the best 20 teams in the country at the start of that season. Raducanu wasn't even in the top 150. And still isn't (until the next rankings are published!).

In footballing terms it would be like Millwall wining the cup winners cup after losing in the FA cup a fews year back  while in the championship.

Even then, no team mates to back her up, the closest I can think is Becker winning his first Slam, but he wasn't a qualifier.   This properly goes down in history

Just remarkable

Greece 2004, Leicester 15/16, Goran Ivanisevic Wimbledon 2001, Denmark 1992, Lille in Ligue 1 last season if you understand their financial situation, Tyson vs Buster Douglas... Plenty of them imo and maybe a bit of Football orientated bias

Footballing minnows Scotland drawing 0-0 with England at Wembley in June.

Greece and Denmark shithoused those tournaments. Goran was a grass court specialist!! Always thought he'd eventually win a Wimbledon.

Lille based on their performance against Lorient last night which I watched, maybe close!

I follow tennis fairly closely and Raducanu has come from nowehere and looks like the finished article. I mean they should probably drug test her, but just unreal..

none of those are really close 3 of them have team mates backing them up while playing at the same level, Ivanisavic had already been far at wimbeldon and had experience when he got his wildcard chance 2 or 3 finals i reckon, and one had a punchers chance against a rapidly fading junkie drunk.

Scotland? hahaha. I know you put that in there for the giggles

Of course @Kid in the Riot has never met me so you are completely correct in that he has no clue what he’s talking about ?

Like most people on Internet forums he wouldn’t say anything to someone’s face that he happily says behind a keyboard.

 Evening!!

Yep Goran on grass with that serve and forehand,  like you say a punchers chance. He'd already had a great career.

No-one has burst onto the scene like this, it's her second Slam ffs.

Who's that guy in golf that won the Open this year? Suppose it's similar-ish to that? Edit: Morikawa

aye, that is probably as close as you are going to get.  any you quoted me before I realised Goran had not won before his wild card, I remember he had got to the final a couple of times, maybe 3 and lost em all and that's what made it a great win, too quick off the mark for me Kid

Harsh on Denmark. They beat the favourites France, they beat the reigning champions Netherlands then beat the World Champions Germany. Greece beat Spain in the qualification, then the hosts twice, beat the European Champions and for me the team of that tournament Czech Republic, all this having not qualified for a major tournament since 1994 where they got battered,

I'm sorry it is a better underdog story as is Leicester 15/16, for me, but this is brilliant for Emma Raducanu.

Also other posters mentioning immigration and pointless political point scoring over a fabulous win is sad to see

Also the disrespect towards Mike Tyson - if you had seen him between 85 and 88 he was a true monster, most fighters beaten before they stepped into the ring. Douglas wasn't a big name at all and knocked Tyson out. Remarkable for me

amen to that, time to celebrate a brit winning a top title, it doesn't happen often

Exactly, nauseating for sure.
