Per the above, Campbell applied for our job at one stage - got to assume it was when Holden was appointed. Mind you, also applied for Rovers so it feels like someone applying to both be the trolley collector and CEO at Tesco.

Probably couldn’t have been worse than Dean, but would have been a colossally disappointing hire in view of the lack of track record.

Burned what little there is of his reputation during one of his earlier job interviews when he was asked about specific players in the squad and what formation he would play. He couldn't actually name any of the players !!! (not exactly well prepared). This was from everyone's favourite Talk Sport co host Simon Jordan.

Doesn’t mean he can’t have another chance though. He’s obviously desperate for a manager/head coach role and I hope he gets another opportunity. Maybe the Rovers job will be available again soon.

Just looking at his end career and start of management .

Notts Co. Signed as a 4th Division player on £40k a week, played once and didn't like it .... left by mutual consent. Does not give a good indication of being happy at that level, few weeks into a 4 year deal.

Then went back to Arsenal and Newcastle played 18 times in the Prem, obviously liked the comfort of the Prwn sandwiches .

Macclesfield , kept them up TBF. About 26% win record. Joined in the November 2018 , and in August 2019  left by mutual consent (9 months ?) . Then backed an HMRC winding up order against the club. Now that doesn't sit well with clubs, even if he is owed money.
After winding up order they are in the NORTH WEST COUNTIES PREMIER DIVISION.

Joined Southend, Oct 2019. Another cash strapped team who were struggling, relegated when COVID hit. Left June 2020, by mutual consent. (9 months?)They also had a winding up order hanging over them.

Add the bit about him saying he was one of the best players in the World, that Billy Big Bollox never goes down well, I'm not seeing a great candidate for a job.
Was never getting a job with City when Johnson left, everyone (apart from Mark Ashton) was crying out for an experienced man. Even that scabby lot from the top of Gloucester Road wanted a more experienced man. Even if he did have court cases hanging over him.
I don't think he's done himself any favours, IMO he should be looking for a stable, lower League club, and get some time and experience in.

Pretty sure he did the same thing at Portsmouth when he was on Prem league wages in whatever division they were in at the time.

I listened to that one, he also wanted to take Southend on a pre season tour of Italy when they were clearly cash strapped. Just seems like he is totally out of touch with reality particularly when it comes to lower league football.

He comes over as an entitled nob who thinks every club should be begging him to manage them and when they don't he plays the race card.

"I was one of the best players in the world"  - have you ever heard any other player say that? Not even Ronaldo or Messi say that.

A complete ****.

He's had his chances at management and failed.

Like a lot of top level footballers who you think would be able to transfer their skills to football management he couldn't do it in practice.

Bobby Moore is maybe the prime example of this; he had a glittering club and international career but when it came to management it was an utter damp squib:

Teams managed

1980

Oxford City

1981–1982

Eastern AA

1984–1986

Southend United
