Played the full 90 as England lost 3-1 v France.

I'm so confused we haven't played France yet according to the FA https://www.thefa.com/england/youth-teams/results and yet the official site says

The young Lions played France (Wednesday, October 6th, 3pm), but lost 3-1 with Scott playing the full 90 minutes.

Confusing.

The England website has a match report - https://www.englandfootball.com/articles/2021/Oct/06/england-mu19s-france-match-report-20210610 - so looks like that fixture list is incorrect.

This article - https://www.englandfootball.com/articles/2021/Oct/01/Ian-Foster-names-England-Under-19s-squad-October-20211001 - says it was France yesterday, Mexico on Saturday and Belgium on Tuesday.

Looks like only 2 players in that squad of 23 are from clubs outside the Premier league and the vast majority are contracted to top 4-6 clubs.

I’m sure 10/15 years ago U21/19/18’s etc used to have a much wider spread of clubs and leagues - They’ve really got a strangle hold on the best youth now in the premier league.

Selection for this level is clearly a stitch up. There's probably a quota system In place unofficially to appease the big clubs so their youth players have value.  Makes Alex's inclusion all the more of an achievement

I wonder how far away from the France under 21 squad Massengo is?

Probably not that close in reality. All their players are at top flight clubs. Would be fantastic if he could though.

Current midfielders for France U21:

It's ridiculous that Camavinga still plays for their U21s because France needed him at the €s. Massengo should be in there instead.

Massengo still u20s eligible

You'd think he would of got that call up if he hadn't been injured recently. His form can't of gone unnoticed.

I don't know how big the talent pool is at U21 level but Lyon alone consistently produce good young players. Add to that Clairefontaine and the other federation academies, it's no surpise they have been a very competetive team over a long period.

As above, he must be on their radar though, particularly having played at other youth levels. Do they want/need his type of player? Selections certainly become more narrow as you move up through the youth teams, U21s essentially being groomed for the senior team.

Or England don’t actually have masses of resources to cover loads of levels so stick to a primary focus unless they have other knowledge (ie Kevin Betsy with his city connections picking Benarous and Scott)
