Much as the apologising for swearing when broadcasting football annoys me too, it is purely to prevent the broadcaster getting in trouble with OFCOM because bad language before the watershed breaches guidelines, always has been. It's such an out of date response - kind of Victorian. Kids go to every football match and hear all kinds of bad language.
