Just before Christmas 2017 we beat Forest to move to 3rd in the table, 5 days later we turned over Man Utd

The team that best Forest bar Steele in for Fielding was the same that had that famous cup success : Fielding / Wright Flint Baker Magnússon Bryan / Pack Smith Brownhill Patterson / Reid

5-4-1 : Solid foundation, one man up front with pace.

Who of that line up would walk into our current team [injuries apart] .

I'd pick this blend playing the same formation: Bentley / Tanner  Kalas Flint Baker Bryan / Williams Brownhill Smith Scott / Reid

Playing this formation, 5-4-1 with what we have now: Bentley / Tanner Kalas Baker Atkinson Pring / Williams Massengo Scott James / Wells

No place for Weimann or Martin who appear undroppables and, quoting Ian on Radio Bristol last night, they are both culpable in the ball not sticking which is why the midfield and are always chasing the ball and the defence is under pressure

Must admit I thought it was more 4-4-1-1 with Patterson playing behind Reid, Magnússon and Bryan one side and Brownhill and Wright the other, Smith and Pack in the middle rather than 5-4-1.

I do agree though that when Wolves scored that injury time winner that Xmas 4 years ago, it has almost been a watershed moment ever since with the creation of a bloated squad with no idea of what pattern or shape Johnson wanted to play as he just stumbled across things as he went along (IMO) alongside Ashton.

I am glad we had that clear out at the end of last season, although I am at the same time perplexed that Lansdown has sanctioned the re-filling the squad with the  signings of Simpson, King and James who in my view looks well off the pace for me.

The ball doesn’t stick with Martin because we punt it up to him. Play it into feet or chest and he’ll have more success, but we need runners off him from midfield - where are they?

For me the home run is now sociology - we can hold until a goal lead against Peterborough, Reading and Cardiff away but can’t against Blackpool. Luton or Forest yesterday.

We sit too deep, and then drop further and further back still. Bentley has got to get the defence up on the edge of the box as a minimum, with a compact midfield in front and pace up top. Forest knew we weren’t going to offer a threat as the game went towards 90 minutes and knew they could push men forward to firstly get the equaliser and then the winner. It was inevitable.

What are we doing in training, we should be practising this?
