Nine games in 44 days- squad will need managing exceedingly well?

Had a quick look at the fixture list, subject to movement for TV, clashes with the other lot at home on the weekend and so on.

From the game straight after the international break to the final game before the FA Cup 3rd round, there are/will be 9 matches. Same for everyone of course but it will be a test for every squad.

It's a bit worrying that we have had as many medium term injuries as we have had even though there were 2 international breaks and a more normal schedule unlike June 2020 to May 2021.

  • 20th November- Blackburn Home
  • 24th November- Stoke Home
  • 28th November- Sheffield United Away
  • 4th December- Derby Home
  • 11th December- Hull Away
  • 18th December- Huddersfield Home

Then obviously the Christmas schedule is the same as usual

  • 26th December- Luton Away
  • 29th December- QPR Home
  • 2nd January- Millwall Home

So far we've played 13 in 74 ie from Blackpool at home to Nottingham Forest at home. 6 of that 9 being at home isn't so bad I guess. Maybe we have got injuries out of the way somewhat, and they will due to this be fitter to meet it...17 in 91 days by the time of the November international break in terms of League games.

Let's hope the squad can cope with it, as schedule wise it'll only get tougher for a while and there is another block of 9 in 44 days or something similar later on in the season. Not including Cup games of course.

The 2nd set of 10 in 43 days. Could even round it up to 11 in 50 given Preston away on 29th Jan.

  • 5th February- Blackpool Away
  • 9th February- Reading Home
  • 12th February- Swansea Away
  • 19th February- Middlesbrough Home
  • 22nd February- Coventry Home
  • 26th February- Nottingham Forest Away
  • 5th March- Birmingham Home
  • 12th March- Blackburn Away
  • 15th March- Barnsley Away
  • 19th March- West Brom Home

Equally distributed, home and away 5 times each in this spell- going back up and down the motorway to Blackburn and Barnsley within a few days isn't great. Remember as well, some of these could be susceptible to being moved for Cup fixtures.

Looks like King is out for some while & based on his career with us so far only a super optimist would expect Williams to play the majority of games, so certainly due to running with smaller numbers we will be stretched at times.

Opportunity for the likes of Janneh, Conway & Bell, though.

It's a brutal division. Opportunity for talented, promising youth although I fear more likely to sink than swim in the current scenario lf several get prolonged game time.
