To do with Qatar ?

No, to do with the presidential elections. Washington Post reports:

The case centers on Platini’s written request to FIFA in January 2011 to be paid backdated additional salary for working as a presidential adviser in Blatter’s first term, from 1998-2002.

Blatter authorized FIFA to make the payment within weeks. He was preparing to campaign for re-election in a contest against Mohamed bin Hammam of Qatar, where Platini’s influence with European voters was a key factor.

...

Both Blatter and Platini have long denied wrongdoing and cited a verbal agreement they had made, now more than 20 years ago, for the money to be paid.

Blatter has been charged with fraud, mismanagement, misappropriation of FIFA funds and forgery of a document. Platini has been charged with fraud, misappropriation, forgery and as an accomplice to Blatter’s alleged mismanagement.

I hope they end up in jail.  Horrible pair with not an honest bone in their bodies.

Not sure exactly how it works in Switzerland but if found guilty and sentenced to custodial time...well I'd imagine Blatter would avoid prison on health grounds. He's had heart surgery and an induced coma recently so at 85 isn't going to be put into gen-pop.

My memory aint what it was.  Who was the Jamaican feller they were involved with some years back.  Receiver of numerous well filled envelopes.

The same one that said he would vote for us if we played Jamaica in a friendly. We kept our side of the bargain....

Wow that's big news! We can but hope the Qatar WC will come into question...will Sepp end up in prison or with a lesser sentence?

Jack Warner

Pretty sure he's from Trinidad and Tobago not Jamaica.

From January last year, rather randomly Jack Warner's possible extradition to the US seemed to be down to the UK Privy Council.

He was also reportedly trying to get back to Trinidad and Tobago politics as an MP- as another layer of protection against extradition maybe? However this was unsuccessful.

Assuming both are found guilty, I should not be surprised if neither spend any time in custody: Blatter for the health reasons you mentioned and Platini because he is French - he would only need to remain France to stay out of reach of the Swiss authorities as France has a policy of not extraditing its own citizens; he may even manage to avoid appearing in Court for the same reasons.

Roman Polanski, who receives amazing support from the film and acting fraternity, is still walking around freely in France for this reason.
