Very sad news although not unexpected sadly as he has had Parkinsons since 1984. Thirty-seven years of living with that awful disease - more than half his life poor man.

RIP

Ray Kennedy: Former Liverpool and Arsenal midfielder dies aged 70 - BBC Sport

I remember him playing for Hartlepool, against us in the 80s.

Incredible player, amazing to think that Shankly took him as a striker at Arsenal and converted him to a midfield player. He scored roughly 1 in 3 as a striker and 1in 5 as a midfield player.

He actually signed for Liverpool the day Shanklin resigned!

Saw Kennedy score 4 against us at Anfield in late 74 , if I recall correctly.  It was a 4-0 score in the League Cup 2nd round I think

I had just started at Uni in Manchester and missed last bus back.  First experience of hitch-hiking but luckily got lift back with some lads in a van who were staying in Manchester and had   fancied a trip to Anfield .  My first Away match (other than Eastville) and not a great omen for the next 40 years.

Kennedy was a class player though.

Very underrated player in my opinion.

Class act in that Liverpool midfield.

I seem to recall a goal that he scored against us at AG in the old Div 1. Memories fade I know but I believe he strode forward from midfield, took a pass in his stride, sat our keeper down (John Shaw?) and simply walked around him and placed it in the net.

It looked effortless.
