I find it hard to believe that someone has included Junior Bent in this thread. Useful player, lovely bloke, fondly remembered - rather like Albert Adomah for another generation.

Hahahaha! Junior may well have been a lovely bloke and fondly remembered .

Give him the ball and being, at the time, the fastest player in the league over 100 metres- he arrived along the wing at the byline and crossed to..... absolutely no one.

Sometimes, just maybe you need to have a sense of humour- I mentioned his hold up play not his character. Also maybe take a look at his overall record and the level he was playing at. Personally, I loved the bloke but a good player he was not.

"  Junior Bent... and he probably is" as announced at Trumpton which was the last announcement Keith Valle ever made .

According to him I lick Windows not envelopes ???

I haven’t looked at their forum for a week or so, but he is very outspoken and, clearly, entrenched in his position.

What I did find amusing was that, even when some of his fellow posters were questioning the wisdom of appointing MA, he would respond along the lines that he preferred to make his own judgement based on what he saw with his own eyes (fair enough) rather than listen to a Wurzel window licker - You - when, as I said, the negative comments weren’t coming from you but from fellow TWTD forum members.

I can't remember a Gloucester cup final ever attracting more than about 10k (possibly prior to my time of 30 years it may have been different)

Pretty sure we lost that league cup 2nd leg 4-2 & went out on away goals, having beat them 3-1 at Twerton.

Regularly 20,000+ in the 50s at Ashton Gate and Eastville.

In answer to this thread, if, and I hope it never happens, Mark Ashton rolls up in BS3, we summon the powers of all that have gone before in our Ashton Gate temple and have him tripping over his shiny suit trousers as he scarpers across Ashton Park after the most hostile of receptions from man, woman, boy and girl.

Merry Christmas fellow Reds

I hope he’s feeling the bloody pressure tonight because frankly that’s NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Sort it out Ashton or **** off : This is your mess

you recall, at the time of all the new signings Ashton said he interviewd & effectively vetted them all to ensure they were committed & signed up to his vision, etc.

Bullshit

They've worked out he's a genetic cross between Demonic Cummings & Derek Draper a damn site faster than Lansdown could manage....

Good luck to them in prising it out of it's shell.

Well the thread is about people who would get a bad reception if they returned, which I’m sure Junior wouldn’t.

As for his record, he was with us from 1990-97, with 183 appearances, much of that time at the level we are at now. Obviously we must have had a lot of deluded managers to keep picking him so often! Imperfect yes, but a valuable player over many years.

Re. ‘Lovely bloke’, I remember an interview he gave shortly after joining (it may even have been his first game, I can’t remember as it was so long ago) following a match against Rovers or Swindon (can’t remember) when he either made or scored (can’t remember) the winner after a typical fast run.

Whilst I have obviously forgotten the finer details of the match itself, ?, I can well remember how natural, warm and friendly he seemed and how he spoke with a very strong Yorkshire accent.

Junior scored the winner in a 1-0 win up at Swindon in our, I think, 2nd game back in the old Division Two.  Bob Taylor drilled a 60 yard pass to him after their corner was cleared and Bent ran through and slotted it past the keeper.

30 years ago and I remember it clear as day…..as I’ve got it on VHS!

Here we go -

what a ball through from God. Great slot from Junior as well.

As has been mentioned previously, great signing for £30,000. His crossing wasn’t always great and I’m pretty sure that generally, 1 on 1’s weren’t his strength. But if they were, he’d have been playing at a higher level and not for us!

Spot on.

Honest trier who was fondly remembered & signed off his City career with a winning goal at the Mem.

He cost us £30k for ****’s sake, I watched the 4-2 win at Twerton last night, his cross for Agostino’s goal, our third (& what a player he was) was worth that alone.

He was basically my first football winger. I was in awe of his pace.

As a kid  I specifically remember being very upset when leaning, bent, and Newman left.

I can recall mickey droy, winding up the grandstand and enclousure.

Im pretty sure, he was with brentford, they beat us, and him and a few others doing warm downs.

The police knew when things were going to get hairy, for refs, players, in those days.

They used to wait pitchside, and escort people thru the tunnel.

Mickey needed about 8 police that day.

He looked terrified.

Was that when they were managed by Steve Perryman and Graham Rix was playing?  See, to recall us being 3-0 down in pouring rain and got back to 3-2, and then Perryman had them doing warm downs in front of the Atyeo!

Yep, spot on dave., was a dire day.

Was in the 3 to 4 section that day, and they gave us torrid time first half.

I can recall perryman, now you mention it.

Seems they had a decent side out.

Andy Sinton booted one in from 25 yards (first time I’d seen him).  Did a young Millen play?  Just looked it up, New Year’s Day 87/88 season….Gary Blisset 2 Andy Sinton 1.  Rix was on loan (from HMP ?)

I was at that game too. Some years ago I was chatting to theirGary Phillips, their goalkeeper at that time - Lovely bloke. When I told him I was a City fan he instantly recalled that match, remembering our fans being none too friendly. Said some of ours smashed the dressing room window to try to get at their players after the match,/warm downs. Was Droy the big bloke? Said he squared up to some of our fans outside the ground after the match.

No contest. Ashton the c*** has put this club back years.
Never has anyone conned the owner, board, fans and back room staff like Ashton.
A bad human!

Never conned me. I always thought he was an utter utter utter waste of time space and money. An incredibly transparent individual who somehow remains opaque to those who have little clue.

Then couple that with what was employed to join him, similarly disposed, along with other incompetence at higher levels then here we are!

That pass from God Taylor is the stuff of dreams.

One of the finest moments of that era.

Not sure we will ever see a more “all-round” centre-forward at the Gate again. Pretty much the perfect No.9.

£300k for him was daylight robbery and the day he was sold to The Baggies was one of a number of times my club has made me cry, when my old man broke the news. Couldn't believe it.
