Under the laws of the game a yellow card and penalty is 100 % the correct call by the referee. Thanks Bill, I always assumed a foul stopping a player being through on goal would be a straight red. Every day's a school day.

Every day's a school day. The rules changed….”double jeopardy”….the penalty is seen as punishment enough if the player makes a genuine (define genuine!) attempt to tackle the player. Had he tugged Afobe’s shirt, he might’ve got a red and it still be a penalty.

Tough call that Fevs, Towler was miles away from the ball IIRC, more pressure on officials I guess as the 'genuine' bit is all about 1 man's opinion. Maybe the old rule was clearer? In my ignorance, I expected to see a red card at the time.

If you try and make a tackle, even a tackle as badly timed as Towler’s you will get away with just a yellow. 2
