Racey ("Some Girls"), from Weston-Semenyo-Martin. I believe they were Sags, actually ....

And I'm pretty sure the biggest ever selling single for the RAK label (considering that label also had the fantastic CCS, Hot Chocolate, Kim Wilde and Mud to name but a few)!

Just looked, and it got to No.2! And in 1979 too, which if I'm not mistaken was the peak for singles sales in this country. They must've sold lorry loads.

I suppose I could always try and look it up to check, but I suspect @slartibartfast is making a little joke - about Bannerman, I mean, not Melting Pot.

So, @slartibartfast and @Norn Iron, curiosity got the better of me, and I tried (unsuccessfully) to find the origins of Bannerman.

Whilst I have not yet succeeded, I did come across this very interesting (for those of a certain age) article.

In addition to showing the lyrics for Melting Pot, it also shows a very interesting 1971 chart - note Jonathan King just above The Hollies, Hey Willy (23 and 24).

Not at all, RC said it himself and confirmed it to me in person once in The Sally ,Mangotsfield (his local when he came back visiting from the US)

OK, I believe you.

I am surprised, though not so surprised as I was to read that RC frequented what was then The Salutation in Mangotsfield - it has changed a bit now, mind.

Yes, his father-in-law was chairman of Mang Utd, back in the day. Roger was often seen propping up the bar , wearing his hippy Afghan coat, smoking a large cigar with  his Roller/ Jag (sorry, can't remember which ) parked outside.

And scorer of the freakiest goal in history - v England, World Cup '70. He was running away to the corner flag when the ball dropped onto the back of his head and looped over Bonnetti. I still have flashbacks.

Sad for the Germans, though. Their '66 squad is still larger than ours.

Paddy Hopkirk, legendary rally driver, 89.

He was one of the early heros in rallying when the sport was a massive draw and a truly international event, but in which the average man could still enter. His winning of the 1964 Monte Carlo was a real triumph, despite some of the more 'insistant' applications of the rules. A true superstar now leaving us.

He used to be a regular on Grandstand, as I recall.

Paul Sorvino, Goodfellas actor aged 83.

2 Goodfellas heavy weights gone in a few months. Gutted, he was yet another awesome member of that cast.

David Warner as well, another quality actor with a great body of diverse work. His voice acting work was top notch too.

RIP both.
